Parnasse is Alielle's little brother and it really, really shows. His features,
hairstyle, and size almost exactly mirror Alielles. He does give the impression
of being not quite as bright as Alielle, who was generally portrayed as being quite
intelligent and worldly, but this could be attributed to his youth. (Editor's Notes:
This can be subject to some debate. One source (The Alternative World "Memories"
book) actually lists Parnasse as being 16, along with Alielle. This makes me believe
that they are actually twins, which goes a long way to explaining their near identical
appearance. Perhaps the reason that Parnasse is often called Alielle's younger brother
is because she may have been born first and that she calls him her "little" brother
as a sort of sisterly teasing. However, it would seem to be that others regard him
as being younger. Perhaps that may be because of his rather immature way of acting
from time to time. Either way, since the series never gives a definitive answer,
I consider him to be an immature 16. - Ed.) While he is still a pre-adolescent,
he already has a very active interest in girls, and with age may become just as
sex-crazed as his sister. That's right, I DID say "interest in girls". Unlike Alielle,
Parnasse seems to be heterosexual, at least if such a thing can be certain in a
boy as young as he is.
Much like Alielle, Parnasse hits on almost every beautiful girl in the show (of
which there is, of course, no shortage), but his absolute favorite target is Princess
Fatora. Naturally, Fatora is also the girl who wants the least to do with him, but
Parnasse refuses to give up. After all, he must have a chance. Why else would Fatora
have crawled into bed with him and stuck her hand down his shorts? That event (in
my opinion, one of the funniest scenes in "The Alternative World"), which was the
result of a mistake of identity amusingly paralleling Makoto's first introduction
to Alielle, is one that Fatora regards as a nightmare come true. To Parnasse, though,
it is one of his most treasured memories.
It's worth noting that Fatora is really the only female much bothered by Parnasse's
advances. The rest all think them the innocent games of a young boy, and are even
willing to let him bathe with them. Surprisingly, he doesn't take advantage of this
seemingly endlessly exploitable weakness. His verbal come-ons never go further than
to complement his targets' beauty, and he never gets more physical than the occasional
glomp. Perhaps they ARE just the games of a young boy.
One girl that Parnasse DOESN'T hit on is Qawool Towles. This is most likely due
to the fact that Parnasse owes a certain loyalty to her. Parnasse is Qawool's attendant,
and had accompanied her during her voyage to Floristica. At least, he did until
they were separated, and Qawool was ambushed by the Bugrom. Fortunately, both made
it to Floristica safely. After that, apparently his duties as an attendant were
pretty much finished, as he tended to have little to do with the young Water Priestess
for the remainder of the series, leaving him free to chase girls (Or perhaps he
much rather chase girls than perform his duties anyway. Not like it matters as Qawool
is too busy fawning over Makoto to even notice Parnasse's absences! - Ed.)
Parnasse's purpose in "The Alternative World" seems to be largely one of comic relief.
He's there to expand on the humor of having Makoto as a nearly-identical-yet-male
twin to Princess Fatora by providing a nearly-identical-yet-male twin to Alielle.
It doesn't take long for the supply of mistaken identity jokes to peter out, though,
and by episode three he's mostly a tagalong. He still ekes out some value by being
someone capable of unnerving the normally unshakably confident Princess Fatora and
by being the medium by which some plot device or other is discovered to move the
plot along, but he's really just a one-trick pony.
