El-Hazard Online / Re: Some EH Fanart

One of the strangest experiences I've ever had was the night I was flipping through the yellow pages for some such and happened to hit "beauty shops".  Someone had proudly displayed a "Chibi-Asuka-in-Plug-Suit" illo right next to their ad.

You find anime art in the weirdest places...

It's not an artbook and unless you must own every single scrap of El-Hazard merchandise, it's nto even worth owning.

It's book #3 of a a three book set of what could be called "tele-Manga."

Basically all they did was cut, crop, and paste a bunch of screen shots from the 1st OVA and added word balloons.  -_-

Damn, am I being a buzzkill these days?

No, you just saved me at least $20. Much appreciated.

... I'm ... not quite sure what that is.  It looks interesting, although it suggests a couple possibilities of what it is.

Be grateful I didn't include any links to the three hentai doujinshi out there. :)

Posted about 1/2 hour later..

Never mind. I see you've already...archived them...

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to wash my brain with acid to remove a particular image dealing with "Altnerative Equipment"...

Question...

I vaguely recall that someone said one particular art book is very hard to find...

...and I realize I'm dooming myself if this happens to be the one...

but is this the one in question?

I've not seen episode 2 yet only one  I hope the story does move along to be honest though the first episode was good it was more "if you have not seen Tenchi before this happaned" Flashback episode that really shouldn't of been done.   It could of done without the flashbacks and more focus on the there and now.Hoep episode 2 is better

Well, you have to remember, it's been 10 years since the last OAV and there may actually be some people coming into the series cold. :)

Episode 2 definitely progresses things. You find out who the mysterious woman is at the end of episode 1, you meet Tenchi's grandmother Airi as well as his new fiancee Noike (and who arranged that union--a name GXP viewers will instantly recognize), and you see Tenchi drop a load when Yosho drops his disguise and tells him some of the truths of the Masaki family.

And Episode 3 promises to be even wilder.

Excuse me, do you know when the Mongols ruled China?

From around 1978 to 1980, then the band broke up, reunited, but by then disco was pretty much dead in Peking and that was that.

Ah well. Fahrenheit will live forever in at least one nation  ;D

I'm sorry, but "Celsius 232.78 by Ray Bradbury" just doesn't have quite the same zing. :)

For myself, I've found that if you just consider it to be the anime equivilent of a Shakespeare comedy, Tenchi works just fine. :)

El-Hazard Online / The Unattainable EH Collectable?
« on: February 02, 2004, 03:52:28 pm »
I've been poking around here the past few weeks, looking at various messages and all. But much to my shock, no one has commented on the one EH collectable that I've yet to see on eBay or at any convention.

I speak of course of the Ura plushie.

It exists; I know it does.

http://www.el-hazardonline-dl2.net/artbooks/etranger/Etrangerpage39.jpg

Look at the central male figure (I figure it's Makoto's VA) and what he's holding in his arms.  The plushie shows up elsewhere in that section. So obviously some were made and are now...who knows where?

Anyone seen/bought/own/ one?

I've never heard of any Tenchi novelizations. Have a link or any summaries for me?

Here's a good FAQ for the series courtesy of AstroNerdBoy:

http://www.astronerdboy.com/tenchi/

Kaz Tatsumingo has a rough partial translation of the True Tenchi novels on his site:

http://homepage2.nifty.com/tatsumingo/world/world_e.html

And for easier reading, try Kryo's version of the novels (in progress):

Z, on the other hand; is cliche incarnate. He needs to prove his badness, so he lays waste to a fleet of ships-- without a ship of his own! (lol?) He's better than Tenchi... because he has five Lighthawk Wings! (ooh :|) And he has a "cool" one-letter name, and works for a mysterious being of cosmic power! (I quit.)

This has been alluded to since "Night Before the Carnival", so it shouldn't be a big surprise. We know very little about Z and his motivations. Too soon to tell.

In #2, they bring back Airi from GXP (which was cool) and reference Seto (which was not). She was funny there-- she was the "battleaxe" female character to contrast to Airi and Misaki/Funaho. She had some cool moments, and her "fighting" wasn't too over-the-top.

Airi and Seto have been around long before this. You just have to reference the True Tenchi Novels to get the backstory.

Quote
Now all of a sudden "even Kagato is afraid of her?" Eh? This was before he attacked Jurai and plunded 3000-some-odd planets of their artifacts, right? And how even the GXP are afraid of facing him? Heck; Kagato thought so little of Jurai he sent his henchman (Ryoko) to deal with it.

Again, if you go out to the True Tenchi Novels, you learn that Kagato picked that moment in time to send Ryoko specifically because Seto wasn't there at the time. If you've seen GXP, you know what Seto is capable of doing. Damn right Kagato was wary of her. And if certain little clues are true, there other reasons why Kagato did not desire a meeting.

Quote
I'm not harping on this because it involves Kagato (my favorite Tenchi character, and among my favorite villains); but because it's the most obvious example of history revisionism (which I was expecting, heh; but that-- and "Tennyo" or whatever her name is-- really stretch what little credibility the writers have left).

Why does this surprise you? Tenchi has other relatives he hasn't met--his aunt Minaho, for example. I concede the sudden arrival of an older sister surprised me, but I suspect there's a reason for it, and I'm willing to wait and see how the story unfolds.

One thing you have to keep in mind--we were able to see the first two OAVs pretty much one after the other. That spoiled us. Now we expect the entire story spelled out for us RIGHT AWAY DAMMIT! or we're disapointed.

Now we're stuck waiting along with our overseas brethren. :)

Shocked, shocked I am.

Not only does the AIC main page feature an El-Hazard art piece on its main page...but the forum header stars none other than Ifurita.

Hmmm. I've seen the first two eps (fansubbed) and honestly, I'm enjoying it tremendously. A number of questions are slowly being answered, and the one that hasn't been yet keeps getting more and more intriguing.

If you want all-out warfare, though, stick around for the next one. :)
