Granted, this could and probably is just a coincidence or possibly a small homage, but I've had fun speculating that the Time-Space Administration Bureau and their MidChildan civilization are the descendants of one of the ancient nations of El-Hazard that was transported through time and space in the aftermath of the Holy Wars and managed to retain some of their science. And one of the most amusing moments of the first season for me was when the head villain announced her plans in a melodramatic speech and powered up her dimensional fortress to reach Al Hazard...or should that be El-Hazard?
Yeah, I recently saw the first season of Nanoha and had similar thoughts. It could well be an homage. If it isn't, though, it makes me wonder if "El-Hazard" (or some similar sounding phrase) actually has some meaning in some middle-eastern language. Maybe it translates to "paradise" or something like that.

"Veil" was the first word to pop into my mind, but there's probably a real, Middle-Eastern-esque word for the thing. Sadly, I have no idea what that might be.
Welcome back, Rowan!

Hello, Veidt! There were actually four anime-based comics that were planned to be produced: Tenchi Muyo, El-Hazard, Moldiver, and Phantom Quest Corps. Of these four, only Tenchi Muyo ever actually saw print. The remaining three were quietly dropped. While I've never actually read the domestic Tenchi Muyo comic, I've heard that it was quite terrible. It may be for the best that the El-Hazard comic was never actually produced!

Meh. It's long overdue, but here's the pic of my signed helmet: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44603281/ http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=936823 I somehow missed you at the con... Admittedly, with more than 20000 con-goers, it's not THAT likely that two paths cross, but I figured I'd be able to pick out someone dressed like Groucho at least. Oh, well - I still had a great time, and it's good to know that you managed to meet with him. I'm glad he was tickled by your costume; I know I would have been, in his shoes!

The ending is ambiguous enough that you can draw any of a number of conclusions. While it was probably a bit presumptuous of the Wikipedia author to say that they returned to El-Hazard, I'm afraid that the montage of images that play during the closing credits are too inconsistent to draw any firm conclusions as to what happens. Maybe they stayed on Earth, maybe they returned to El-Hazard. Maybe they moved back and forth freely as the whim hit them.
At least, that's my opinion.

I don't recall anybody in this thread saying piracy is bad. Quite the contrary! Piracy makes the world go 'round! We're just in agreement that YouTube is not the ideal source for watching anime. It's good for shorts that you can't anywhere else though, or would rather stream the download like Smirnoff Tea Partay.
Piracy is bad. There, it's now been said in this thread. And it's true, too!

Additionally, the video quality on youtube is abysmally poor. You'd have to be pretty desperate to consider it a good place to watch anime episodes - especially for El Hazard. Given how breathtakingly beautiful the settings and animation were for that show, it's practically a crime to watch it on youtube's grainy, low-quality videos!
The same is true for the AMV's really - you're much better off finding them someplace where they're stored at full quality.

As it happens, I'll actually be at Otakon this year!
I'll definitely have to remember to bring my El-Hazard box set to get it signed!

Yes, Anime often crosses that line... But the anime fanboys (and fangirls) cross it FAR more often, in my opinion. And Sakaki clearly has no taste. Preferring Ryoko over Ayeka? The very thought!

*Froths* Absolutely intolerable! How DARE you steal my precious work to create this... this... abomination! *Unfroths* Just kidding! This is pretty cool, though yeah, I have to agree that it could really use a wider variety of responses. Even Ifurita isn't THAT simple-minded.

Assuming you mean the El-Hazard PC / GBA game... yes, that's staying probably forever. Anyone ever want to rewrite the script for me so it's actually El-Hazard canon instead of what I use to think was a funny modification to it?
That was supposed to be my job, and I never followed through. I'm sorry now that I ever made the criticisms that made you feel that changes were necessary, since I'm no longer ready to own up and do my part to help "fix" things. I really was gung-ho about it at one time, but my enthusiasm died depressingly quickly...

There's actually an excellent AMV (Anime Music Video) called "Radio Free Bugrum" that combines the Zerg with the Bugrum. You have pictures of Jinnai essentially lip-singing the Overmind's voice, and it also features Diva prominently.
Yup! Infact, that AMV, along with a couple others (including the hilarious Habba Habba Zoot Zoot) are available on this Website, under Goodies -> Media. SERVE THE HIVE.

I always thought that Starcraft lent itself well to this sort of idea since the game's three races lend themselves to easy comparison to those of El-Hazard: Zerg: An insectoid race. Protoss: A psychic race (with blue skin, even!). Terran: Humans. Of course, Starcraft utilizes a lot of high technology in its battle skirmishes, whereas technology in El-Hazard, while present, tends to be more in the background. I toyed with the idea of creating an El-Hazard scenerio using Starcraft's versatile campaign creator, but was ultimately too lazy to do so.

Sounds like it'd be pretty neat! Now, if only you had strong financial backing, and the ear of Geneon's production staff in Japan. Seriously, though, it's great to see that El-Hazard still has enthusiastic fans. Welcome to El-Hazard Online!
