If you think that's scary...

Behold the horror of ManFaye.

You know, one of these days I'm going to build a dimensional machine and mount a research expedition to find out the truth behind El Hazard's most troubling mystery: The Fate of Rune's Farmer Boyfriend, Chabil.

Did he die? If so how? Did he merely run away like that wimp Makoto when his stupid island farm fell to pieces? Or did Rune Venus's hand puppet seriously freak him out?

The world deserves to know the answer to these questions. I am currently accepting donations to fund this very important project. Please send all funding to the Bugrom hive, in inconsecutive bills no higher than twenty.

... you think soy sauce goes great with every meal.

... you've been wearing the same suit and tie for the last five years.

... you put up a toilet in your mother's garden.

... you call the ACLU to advocate the Phantom Tribe against the cruelties perpetrated against them by the humans of El Hazard.

... you get more girls when you crossdress as a lesbian princess than you do when normal. (Ha! Another vicious cut against you, Mizuhara! You loser!)

I don't RPG, for lack of time, and many other reasons.  But I've seen where other message boards tried more simple round-robin interactive writing.  The AIC El-Hazard bulletin board has a very silly round-robin story.  Maybe you could throw up another forum for creative writing.  Someone could try to start a more serious round-robin story, or we could just go for complete unmoderated silliness.  Or both.

Yes, those old AIC round robbins were pretty fun.

The only problem is that these things can pretty much degenerate into bizarre, head-ache inducing LSD trips. Take the round robins I started for instance: Round Robin I and Round Robin II.

The first one had no rules, which explains the general chaotic structure of the piece. For part 2 I tried instituting some rules into it, but that didn't work out since the rules seemed to limit everybody too much.

Well, my first exposure to El Hazard was all the way back in 1996. I was still in high school, and to my surprise a videogame import store opened up in my neighborhood. Not only did they sell neat crap from Japan, but they also rented out subtitled copies of various anime. Of the many titles I had rented, El Hazard struck me as the most unique. This was mostly due to the character of Jinnai, who in my opinion is the best villian to grace any screen.

After a while I lost interest with the show, moving on to others like Ranma and Evangelion. It wasn't until a year or so ago that my interest was rekindled, when I picked up the OAV DVD box set. I watched it dubbed this time, and instantly fell in love with the characters. The entire cast was great, and offered a completely different experience from the subtitled version. Jinnai became my main man again, as Bob Marx's portrayal really gave him new life for me.

Hmmm, very interesting so far.

In Makoto's description, you forgot to include these points though:

-he's dumb.
-he's stupid.
-he's a perverted cross-dressing freak.
-he hates little children and wants to eat them.

You gotta be accurate, you know.

I am proud to say that I have seen ALL of El Hazard. I began by buying the DVD box set with the Magnificent World and EH2, which only served to whet my appetite for more so I bought the entire series of Alternative World. Fast forward a year later to last week, whereupon Pioneer had released the Wanderers boxed set which brought the EH fan within me to emerge once more.

I just recently bought the Wanderers Boxed set, but unfortunately the third volume has a defect in it. I believe Pioneer recalled all of them, and those who all ready bought the set can have vol.3 replaced free of charge.

Thankfully I managed to talk my local retailer into merely exchanging my in-box volume 3 for a copy of the regular Wanderers vol.3, thereby saving me the annoyance of having to send out for the replacement.

... you wear your cat as body armor~~ with tragic results.  :'(

... you try to conquer the high school with your ant farm.

... you start naming your lackeys after the Marx Brothers.

... you actually think you'll attract women because you are a personality-less, spineless, wimpy, girly-looking science geek with bad hair. (Ha! Take that, Mizuhara!)
