Hahaha, yeah, wasn't that anigif the catalyst for the lore of the sausage tongue?

El-Hazard Online / Rewatching Wanderers
« on: May 26, 2004, 05:37:25 pm »
I'm currently re-watching the whole of Wanderers on a episode per day basis and I am actually finding it much more enjoyable a second time round.

I think the main reason for me enjoying it this time around is because it's become much more apparent to me that the characters are merely their OAV personas driven to the highest possible comedy level. Overall, it's extremely pleasing and a nice alternative to sitting still and switching your brain off for 21 minutes.

Anyway, no idea what the actual topic is here... Erm, I suppose it's "did you find Wanderers more enjoyable the second time round?". Yeah, that'll do.

---

Amusing Wanderers images:

- I couldn't help but burst out laughing when I saw this. Wanderers Jinnai's tongue has always been humourous to the max, for me. More on this later...

- Jesus FUCKING Christ. Shit, man, this still freaks me out, even after all the exposure that I had to it ages ago. I think the only way to perfectly describe this is as "beautifully ugly". Or "beautiful in a ugly way", either way that is one fucked up Fujisawa.

- Ahhh, sausage tongue. The lore behind sausage tongue is a long and properous one, as Rob will confirm. I only wish I could find that fanart that I drew of sausage tongue. It was the shit.

1) FLCL - Fooly Cooly (6 episode OAV)
2) Neon Genesis Evangelion (26 episode TV series, 2 movies)
3) El-Hazard - The Magnificent World (6 episode OAV)
4) Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki (6 episode OAV)
5) Di Gi Charat (13 episode TV series)

That's currently it. The order usually circulates depending on my mood.

El-Hazard Online / LD scans
« on: May 22, 2004, 05:06:22 pm »
Props to Rob for scanning these. Very nice stuff. A couple of questions:

1) How big are the laser discs? I've always been under the impression that they're the size of huge album sized records, but you have appeared to have scanned them in. Meaning that you either have a huge scanner or... I dunno. The LD is smaller?

and

2) Any more scans to come? ; )

Rob, a good way to check may be to ask her to translate some CD booklets or something. *pause* Well, maybe. Honestly, I just want those translated for whatever reason.

Also, stanky105 - Sachiel rules.

Yes, I am great.

Oh, and I can best you, Xel. I HAVE A REAL LIFE EVANGELION AT MY DISPOSAL.

Or at least, an Evangelion action figure.

If I could win one on eBay. ;.;

Ahaha, yeah. I probably did say "NO" as soon as the word "OVA" came out of your mouth. But think about it... OAV *is* cooler, despite what other people say.

I used to go with OVA in my "omg omg tenchi" days, but have since switched to OAV because of El-Hazard, and later, Fooly Cooly. Dunno why, just have.

Obviously Morocco, and other Arabian Nights-esque settings.

Fortunately, it hardly matters as AW itself is a "sad contraption". ;)

However, I don't condone pirating the first OAV, at least. I'd say it's worth every over spent penny, but then again, OAV's just own my face, so yeah. How can you trust what I say?

A piece of El-Hazard history has just died.

I still think Hayashi is a genius director, and that it's right he didn't want to do any sequels. Nothing will ever beat the first OAV, and this fact alone proves my point.

Ugh? Tighter? The thing is 26 episodes long! There's nothing "tight" about it.

Plus, the incest stuff was interesting.

A much cooler villian? I'm sorry, but no. Just no. The OAV Kagato wipes the FLOOR with Universe Kagato. Easily. The whole look of the character is extremely generic in Universe. In the OAV, it is inspired, not to mention he has an excellent dub voice.

And Kiyone? She gets annoying after a while ;) And she destroys the relationship between Washu and Mihoshi.

Don't be misled, Rob. The first OAV series is definitely the better one. I would make big valid points on this matter, but it's 7:44am, so that's a no no. In short though, the following is better:

- Animation (It's an OAV)
- Action
- Music (Yes, it's the same as with EH. Most of the Universe only tracks are rather goofy.)
- Storyline (This is the "tight" story. It tells a great story in no less than 6 episodes.)

The only thing I can think of that is better in Universe is a few of the invidual lines and moments that could have been better realised in the OAV. Er, I can't think of any now (been ages since I watched Universe all the way through), but I'll add some later.

It doesn't really help that I sent you the first episode in the form of a shitty 16mb RM either. Now that I have cable, maybe I'll encode a 150mb avi or something.

[leans back] Mm. I suppose the big problem with Tenchi Muyo! Ryoohki is all the REALLY good stuff happens in the second half of the 6 episodes. For example, episode 4 has become some what of an animé classic, with the [SPOILERS] whole bath house scene. It's definitely what got me hooked to the series. And, of course, the final 2 episodes is action-packed space adventure all the way [/SPOILERS].

Then, of course, they had to cash cow it like mad... ;p
