Are you able to access system restore feature in Windows? If you can, then you won't lose any documents, although you may lose some software. I've a feeling we may be talking of cross purposes here, but system restore will simply return your computer to its state on a specified date (with the exception of documents, which are maintained).

El-Hazard Online / Re: Alternative World Alternatives« on: February 02, 2004, 08:50:10 am »Quote If nothing else, I asked for permission from Dooky to use one of his original characters, something like a year and a half ago, and I still need to write that idea out. Did you? Oh, you almost certainly did, but I'm buggered if I can remember. Which character was it again? ^_^ By the way, I sort of agree with you over Excel Saga- I do like it, but it's nowhere near as good as everyone says it is. Oh, and please write that Parnasse-related story! There really isn't enough Parnasse related fanfiction out there... ^_^ 49
El-Hazard Online / Re: Alternative World Alternatives« on: January 27, 2004, 07:44:38 am »Quote Again I will take this opportunity to question -- how did three girls get molested individually by only two others? Hey now, this is Alielle and Fatora we're talking about here. Are you doubting their abilities? Incidentally, at the weekend our anime club screened El-Hazard OAV1, OAV2 and Alternative World across two days. And while it was generally agreed that Alternative World was weaker, nobody hated it. It seems to me that the more you love El-Hazard, the more fault you'll find with its sequels... because, I suppose, it hurts to see something you love decline to such an extent. But going on the views of others, I'd have to argue that Alternative World isn't terrible- it's just not up to the standard. And let's not forget that Alternative World gave us some good things, such as: Makoto making actual progress with the Eye of God Some fantastic Jinnai moments More Fatora Gilda (yum) Qawoor Parnasse (what? I liked him) As a fanfic writer, I simply regarded the plot holes of Alternative World as a challenge. Ignoring it is the coward's way out... ^_~ dooky 50

Seems to work okay. But just so you know... there's a probelm with the first question- "Who is the first person to appear in OAV1?" I believe it's Fujisawa, but you've got the answer as Jinnai. (Well, you could argue that it's Ifurita, what with her opening monologue and all...)

Well, I was never going to say it from the outset, but I was also a bit disappointed with this chapter... which is one of the reasons it took so long. It had to be written though, since Sanction's quest to become an idol singer is indeed going to be a recurring theme in the series. I don't think it comes up in the plot again until something like Chapter 8, but this is the start of Sanction's little story arc.
Anyway, I have much higher hopes for Chapter 4, a Swanchita/Zerryn story which actually threatens to advance the plot slightly. Cheers as usual for the feedback... the dooky 52

Well, I couldn't resist. There's a new chapter of my original anime fiction project (contradiction, I know) up on my site: http://darthbirdie.com/dooky/portrait.htm
It's sort of sci-fi comedy, if you like that sort of thing. Yes, it does contain limited amounts of yuri. And a catgirl ^_~ I'm also working on an encyclopaedia dealing with the universe described in the story, as well as attempting to get into some sort of writing routine so that I can update more often than every six months... the dooky "Sometimes, I ponder: What if the Caspian Sea should merger Over my shoulder, with Irish lakes and Seoul suburbia?" 53
Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Warning: Topic may contain catgirls« on: December 04, 2003, 12:26:50 pm »
Evening, kids. I thought I'd stop by and ask or a wee bit of help with a current project of mine. For various secret reasons, I'm trying to assemble a list of catgirls in anime series. I've found several incomplete lists on the web, but I'm sure I'm missing some, particularly from newer series...
Anyway, here's my list, currently at 34 catgirls... Aisha Clan-Clan (Outlaw Star) Annapuma (Dominion Tank Police) Battia Rou (Outlanders) Charlotte (Magical Catgirl Taruto) Cheshire Cat (Miyuki-chan) Chinaki (Mao-chan) Chitose (Magical Catgirl Taruto) Dejiko (DiGi Charat) Eriya (Escaflowne) Felicia (Darkstalkers) Ichigo (Tokyo Mew Mew) Kizna (Candidate for Goddess) Koboshi (Pita Ten) Kokubunji Koyori (Nurse Komugi Magikarte) Koma (Asagiri no Miko) Konyako (Eden's Bowy) Lime (Jewel Bem Hunter Lime) Mao (Angelic Layer) Maya (Geobreeders) Merle (Escaflowne) Miruru (Tenshi ni Narumon) Naria (Escaflowne) Natsuki (Hyper Police) Nova (Rayearth) Nuku Nuku (Nuku Nuku) Nyako (Eden's Bowy) Puchiko (DiGi Charat) Ropponmatsu 2nd (Excel Saga) Ryuquir (Villgust) Tamami (Tenshi no Shippo) Taruto (Magical Catgirl Taruto) Tin Nyanko (Sailor Moon) Unipuma (Dominion Tank Police) Yuriko (Mao-chan) Certain characters have been considered but then dropped, such as Lum and Shampoo. I'm also not including catgirls who are manga/games/hentai only... not that there's anything wrong with those media (especially if catgirls are involved ^_~), but anime is the field I'm most able to research. Cosplay catgirls are allowed, provided the character wears the costume a lot- so I couldn't really include the likes on Neko-Ruri, Neko-Excel or Neko-Guu -_- However, Dejiko, Puchiko and that girl from Pita Ten are okay, since they're catgirls almost all of the time. A catgirl doesn't even necessarily have to have neko ears... but she'd better be pretty damn catlike to make up for it ^_^ Any omissions you can find would be greatly appreciated. I know, for instance, that there are more catgirls in Taruto, but I've only seen one episode so far. I think there may be numerous catgirls in Candidate for Goddess... so I suppose I'll have to find that series ^_^ Cheers, the dooky 54
El-Hazard Online / Re: Question concerning English Voice Actor/Actres« on: November 27, 2003, 06:14:53 am »
Resurrecting this topic briefly...
I just discovered something interesting about OAV Iffy... apparently, she was voiced by Debbie DeRosa. Whether or not this is KT Vogt under a different name, I don't know. Other credits I found for DeRosa are Cammy in SFII and Karen in one of the Gundams. She also played a minoe character in Phantom Quest Corps- I think I have the dub of that somewhere, so I'll compare the voices. Second interesting thing: I'd long suspected that Diva had a different VA for OAV1, and apparently she did. Her name is (appropriately) Diva West, but she seems to be using an alias as she's not on the EH credits. Finally, we all know that Ruby Marlowe was Rune in later series, but it seems Melodee Lee played Rune in OAV1. Incidentally, my info came from this thread on the animeondvd forums- http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=238144&page=3&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 Obviously I can't guarantee its accuracy, but some of the people there seem to know what they're talking about... industry types frequent those boards, you know... Now, anyone care to join in the Azumanga dub cast guessing game? ^_^ the dooky 55

El-Hazard Online / Re: El-Hazard Cosplay?« on: November 19, 2003, 11:41:14 am »
I think Fatora's breast size is controlled by the same magical force responsible for Alielle's fluctuating age. OAV2 is the only time we see Fatora naked for any length of time, and at that point she seems to be about as blessed as Alielle in that particular department. But in Alternative World, they seem noticeably bigger (leave it to a Fatora fan to notice these little differences ^_~). I know, it's just different artists asserting their individuality, but it still means that I don't have much of an idea of how big they should be.
I could quite justifiably omit them completely... but somehow, that seems like a bit of a cop-out. And I just know that one of my friends in particular would never forgive me if I did that ^_^ 57
El-Hazard Online / Re: El-Hazard Cosplay?« on: November 19, 2003, 09:42:07 am »
Oh, but it'd be worth it, despite the inevitable bad hurting that would follow ^_^
Hands up who thinks Alexei should cosplay as TV Iffy? It could work. As you said, it's usually about the amount of effort put into the costume. Obviously there's a point at which it becomes completely unfeasible... but if you're feminine enough to be mistaken for a girl occasionally, then you shouldn't have too much of a problem... Of course, the benefit to cosplaying Fatora is that most of her costumes (with one or two memorable exceptions) don't show too much in the way of boobage, so the fact that I'm breastless doesn't really amtter, and a bit of padding should do the trick. TV Iffy's costume does show a bit of cleavage, but I think it's still do-able. I know of a guy who cosplayed as Naga from Slayers, with a surprising amount of success o_o And now, a shameless request... I'm looking for pictures of my costume. I've gone via the usual routes, and I've found some... aside from OAV1 screenshots, I've found the original costume design and a few artbook pictures on this site, plus the paper doll thing. These should be enough, but if anyone happens to have any more, it'd be helpful. Just so you know, this is the costume worn by fatora in episode 7 and Makoto in episodes 5 and 6- mostly blue jacket, over a green top and pale green trousers/skirt hybrid thingy. dooky (with a flower in his hair) 58

Not for Fatora ^_~ (sorry, couldn't resist) I think I'll be okay, since I'm quite feminine-looking and have a similar figure to Fatora (minus the boobage, but there's ways around that). Also, one of my friends is a cosplay veteran... I'm currently trying to talk her into going as Shayla. I'm mindful of those horrible pictures you ocasionally see in Newtype of eighteen-stone men cosplaying Sailor Moon. I'm reasonably sure I can pull this one off, though... 59

Anybody here ever tried this? It seems that next summer, I'll finally get to go to a con, and I'm in a cosplayin' mood. And the character I want to cosplay as is...
(pause for effect) (realises that everyone has already guessed) Yeah, Fatora. Not Makoto dressed as Fatora, but actually Fatora (there is a subtle difference ^_^) I have 9-10 months to make a costume, which might seem like a long time... but you see, I don't have that much sewing experience. My qualifications in the subject amount to basic plushie engineering and making some Azumanga daddy hats to promote our anime club. I've never sewn actual clothes before, so this is going to be one hell of a challenge ^_^ Incidentally, the one I've chosen is the mostly blue one from OAV1 (probably harder than the green one, sadly ^_^). I might also cheat and throw in one of the hats from the other costumes, to disguise the fact that I don't have Fatora's fringe. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone on the forum had anecdotes to share about costume-making. Alternatively, you may have just lost all respect for me ^_^ 60
El-Hazard Online / Re: Fanfic inquiry O.o« on: November 17, 2003, 07:42:10 am »
Parnasse is really difficult to do anything with. I had to come up with an entirely separate plot thread to keep him occupied. Maybe you could do something like teaming him up with Makoto? He didn't seem to like Makoto much, so it could be funny.
And don't worry about treading on other people's ideas. That's just how fanfic works... I worried about it myself, but there are only so many things you can do with a series. Your mentioning the Holy War does remind me of something though... a line I cut from The Shape of Things to Come, about how many Ifuritas there were. I mentioned three (the original, the first copy, and more successful OAV2 copy, aka Three), but there was also supposed to be a fourth- a modified Ifurita who had some 'software issues'. I'll leve you to guess who this could be ^_^ |
