El-Hazard Online / Re: Fun little image of Makoto, Ifurita, and Ura.

Thanks IceGuyG, for some reason my image searches never quite brought up the larger version of that picture.  You are right, both sites have a great collection of cels and images.

Jeff,

So many stories, so little time.

Rob,

Well there's always keeping Ishiel's Japanese dialog with some "helper" subtitles.  Just have a disclaimer saying that eventhough Ishiel is speaking another language, Makoto and company understand her just fine, and here's what she is saying.

Hey, sometimes you just gotta fake it.  ;-)

Jeff,

Funny, Makoto's reaction in that scene was very similar to yours.  ;-)

Rob,

A more "normal" El-Hazard and scenario would be interesting for the game, so long as the more free-wheeling conversion is still available.

Though, you know, there are times when I played the game that I wondered if the adaptations to the game's plot and script were really all that far off the mark from the original game's story.

If you did went ahead with the game update, it would certainly be nice to do something with the cutscenes... but really, it wouldn't have to be anything too extensive.  Just a basic translation would probably do.

Hello Jeff!  Nice to see you around here.

I'm just really busy these days with real life stuff, but I try and find time for fan stuff and writing.  Currently working on an El-Hazard fic right now, as a matter of fact.

I am always impressed by what the Japanese YouTube users upload.  In particular Hyadain's wonderful Dragon Quest-based songs and videos.  I also notice that there is a few Japanese El-Hazard fans posting videos.  Some are AMVs, while others are clips from the series, but most recently I found out that someone has posted the cutscenes from the El-Hazard game.

I remember years ago when those clips were posted on this message board.  I know that the old links are now broken.  It is indeed nice that the clips have resurfaced in this way.  Who knows, maybe this masquane fellow originally got the clips from the long-ago posting on this very message board.

So, with no further ado, here are the links:

Keep it real.

El-Hazard Online / Re: How you got into El-Hazard

I knew about El-Hazard because of its connection to Tenchi Muyo but also because at the time I was really getting into anime (1999 or so) it was one of the more popular series out there.  I also always heard that El-Hazard had a "very good ending."

In the summer of 2003 I was looking around on one of the file-sharing networks for Anime Music Videos, a search intended to find a video using the Talking Heads' song "Once In A Lifetime" yielded somewhat different results when I downloaded Michael Ko's El-Hazard AMV using Sarah Brightman's "Once In A Lifetime."  I was very intrigued with what I saw.

And so El-Hazard eventually went down on my "To Watch" list.  But time and money conspired to keep me from finally getting the OVA box set until about six years ago this month (January 2004).   I watched the series, enjoyed it, and then put it down for a while.  Some months later I re-watched the OVA series and found that I not only enjoyed it more, but that the story was much more complex and deep than I had noticed on my first viewing.  This fondness for the series, and enjoying it on different levels has only increased over the years.  That is a rare quality.

I enjoyed OVA 2 well enough, but it just missed something.  The Alternative World was enjoyable only for Parnasse and a few other stray character moments.  The Wanderers was like a good light beer to me if El-Hazard OVA is the finest brew out there!  In other words, I preferred Wanderers to OVA 2 and The Alternative World.  The manga ranks just below The Wanderers and ahead of OVA 2 and The Alternative World for making a good go at combining the best aspects of both continuities while making the story more condensed and action packed.

My favorite primary characters are Ifurita (OVA), Rune Venus (OVA/Wanderers), Afura Mann, Makoto, Fujisawa, Jinnai, Nanami, Shayla-Shalya, Miz, Diva, Alliele, Fatora, Ifurita (Wanderers), Ifurita (Manga) Parnasse, and Qawool.

Icy EyeG, I'm sorry but I can't remember where that image of Ifurita came from.  After losing so many image files over the years, due to so many local-machine changes, I sensed a lack of Iffy images and commenced a Web-wide hunt; so that particular image of her was scooped up during the image-hunting odyssey.

???

By the way, I attached it because I wished to honor my hearth goddess / household deity Ifurita on the occasion of my first post to this board in ages.  From that, you can easily determine who's my favorite El-Hazard character!

;D

=^..^=

In any event, thank you for finding and posting that image.  A fan mystery indeed exactly what that picture and the text accompanying it are about!

This was a fun video.  Thank you for posting it.  :-)

That was my theory too, that the picture comes from the back of some LD release or something.

Oh well, thank you once again.  Back to searching.  At least I have a better picture now. :-)

Hello!

It is indeed good to be on the forums.

Thank you for all of your help.  Yes, that is the picture I was looking for.  Also yes, I was hoping for something in higher resolution.  Nice, big, and clear.

That picture looks so tranquil and happy, doesn't it?  :-)

El-Hazard Online / Searching for a specific Makoto/Ifurita picture.
« on: May 23, 2009, 01:06:01 am »
Greetings!

I have been an admirer of El-Hazard for over five years now and I have recently embarked upon a quest to find a certain image that has eluded me for a while.  Just something to spice up the screen-saver,  you know? ;-)

The image is one that appears to be "official" AIC art, and it shows, very simply, Makoto and Ifurita holding hands at the end of OVA 1, episode 7.  Now, this is NOT the great scene where Ifurita is running towards Makoto after he warps in to save the day.  Nor is it during the ending credits.  This picture takes place after Makoto's return to Earth when he and Ifurita are just standing together and holding hands.  It almost seems like a deleted shot from OVA 1, really.  The picture also just looks great too.

If one needs a further visual reference, check out this El-Hazard AMV on YouTube.

The image I speak of is at 3:48 to 3:54.

My request is simple; I would very much appreciate a high quality scan of that picture.  I have looked all around the Internet and have not been able to find it.

Thank you all in advance.  :-)
