Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Revolutionary Girl Utena
« on: August 06, 2004, 03:14:24 am »
Well, I just finished watching the entire Revolutionary Girl Utena series, and I just gotta say... I am now officially more f'd up in the head than I originally was. Seriously, that show is freaky. But still, it is immensely original and wonderfully put together. The animation was consistently excellent during the entire show, as was the story and music. Although this series isn't for everyone, I must say that I definately enjoyed it.

Now then, I'm off to seduce my sister, kill some cats, free my secret beloved lesbian fencer from an unhealthy relationship, pose for beefcake shots with the creepy headmaster, then turn into a car and ride off into further esoteric adventures.

Absolute Destiny Apocalypse indeed.

*slaps Ifurita around, then orders her to water the roses*

Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Slayers Premium
« on: July 16, 2004, 01:59:33 am »
Wow, I got a really good deal on this dvd. I got it for ten bucks over at my local Fry's retailer, and I must say I am impressed. Although this new movie is only half an hour long, it was still a fun little jaunt. The animation was excellent, the jokes were funny, and seeing the tv crew again after so long was just wonderful.

As many of you may well know, I am a dub watcher. Although they got different actors to play the roles (with the exception of Crispin Freeman for Zelgadis) I thought the actors did a fine job, and this new cast can easily grow on me.

The only complaint about this movie that I have is its length. At 30 minutes, it really doesn't do much in way of plot. As this has been the last, final Slayers production to come out of Japan, it seems a bit disappointing. If it does turns out to be the last, then it would be tragic. I want this show to go out with a bang, not an octupus-induced whimper.

Anyway, this was a pretty good movie overall. Plus, at $9.99, it' definately a bang for your buck. The commentary with Cynthia Martinez and Crispin Freeman is freaking hillarious, and was well worth the price of admission. I urge all Slayers fans to buy this disc.

Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Robot Maids...
« on: June 09, 2004, 05:22:11 pm »

Okay, we all know that the Japanese can be pretty weird. Thankfully, the weirdness is of the good variety.

So then, let us have a discussion on the various weird-ass anime/game fixations that the Japanese have. Examples of these are robot maids, magical girls, cutesy mascots with dots for eyes, fighting nuns, etc.

Why are the Japanese so fascinated with them? And why the HELL do we become obsessed with them ourselves?

Begin discussion.

Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / EHOL is back!

Whoo hoo!

Let us all celebrate this wonderful event by beating Makoto to within an inch of his life, then hurling him off a fifty-story building.

Well done, though, EHOL staff. Your dedication to this site truly is awe-inspiring.

Maybe we can contact AIC and talk them into getting you guys a paycheck. I mean, you do run the best El-Hazard site on the net.

Is anyone else being directed to a page of jibberish when they try to go to these forums from the main page's rollout? Whenever I do, it jumps to a black page with these words on it:

El-Hazard Online / El-Hazard Round Robin
« on: September 30, 2003, 01:43:24 am »
No anime forum is complete without a series-specific round robin! I'll start off, then you guys carry on the story, until either the plot reaches a resolution or we all violently murder each other because of shared lunacy.

Here we go!

*********************************************

Makoto was siting quietly at his window, staring into the night sky. The Eye of God hung silently in the night sky, a powerful symbol of the might of the ancient ones.

"Ifurita," he whispered silently. "Don't worry... I'll find you... someday..."

El-Hazard Online / Who gets Jinnai?
« on: September 11, 2003, 01:40:21 am »
Okay, now that we've discussed the whor... er, I mean, women who are the main contenders for the affections of that wimpy little doofus Makoto, let us talk about the numerous love interests of the great and wonderful Lord God Grand Chancellor Emperor of All Who Live, Katsuhiko Jinnai.

First off, there's Diva. A lot of people set Jinnai up with her for some reason. Then there's... uh...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

Grrrrrrrr... WELL?! What the hell are you guys waiting for? DISCUSS, DAMN IT!

El-Hazard Online / Short end of the stick...
« on: September 04, 2003, 01:56:58 pm »
We all know that the Earthers became gifted with cool special powers when they traveled to El-Hazard. Fujisawa got super strength, Makoto got a machine-interface ability, and Jinnai recieved Bugrom-specific Babel Fish. These three's special abilities have come in handy numerous times, and have basically allowed them to advance themselves in the strange new world they find themselves in.

Unfortunately for poor Nanami, her powers seem to be about as useful to her as viagra to a dead man. While all the others have constant excuses to use their powers, the Phantom Tribe's disappearance has left her powers all but useless. Aside from her "super-cooking" ability, she has absolutely no way to further herself in the world.

I don't know about you guys, but if I were Nanami, I'd be really pissed off at drawing the short end of the stick.

Well, I'm back. I see that this place is still in one piece, so not too much must have happened in my absence.

Good. You must have all been bored to tears without me! Poor, poor little forum goers! Bwah ha ha! Submit to me now, that way I won't have to leave again!

Oh yeah, Xel! I need you to clean up Ifurita. She... had an "accident" with an oil refinery. Ahem...

Ifurita: X_x

Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Going on Vacation
« on: August 22, 2003, 01:47:10 am »
Well me, Iffy, Diva, and the rest of the Bugrom are going on vacation for a week. We're going to lovely scenic New Jersey to enjoy the sights, like the world's largest rubber processing plant, and the world's most polluted body of water.

Lackey #8 Xel will remain at the Hive and, um, "guard" it against invaders. If you have any questions, or need to contact me in any way, drop her a line and she'll take a message.

Anyway, see you peons in a week. Try not to screw up this place while I'm gone. I plan to rule it one day, you know.

El-Hazard Online / Who gets Makoto?
« on: August 21, 2003, 02:22:43 am »
All right, you get to decide. Who, out of all the dumb girls in his harem, deserves Makoto the most?

Will it be that mechanical wind-up wench Ifurita I from the OAVs?

How about fanservice Rune Venus from the TV series?

Or maybe that violent fire hag, Shayla Shayla?

Might my poor, deluded little sister Nanami get Mizuhara?

Or maybe someone else all together?

Frankly, if it were up to me, I'd pair the doofus up with a rabid pitbull. Oooh... what fun imagery I take to my dreams tonight, heh heh heh.
