Title: why the name
Post by: washuchan on September 02, 2003, 04:43:15 pm
Please excuse me before hand if this doesn't make sense at all/annoying  ^^;

ok, I'm just curious..there're character names, strange names, and some not so obvious names

Please let us know why you end up with ur usename on the first place. Who knows? Perhaps you'd show ur creative side and we all nod our head.
(eg. MrWhat....I'm always wondering if this got to do with:  Dr. who?...and Mr. what? (as in normal sentence)

As for me it's obvious,
washuchan: number 1 scientific genius, one among three sister goddesses. First character I relate so much with.
Well, tenchi muyo is really my introduction to the wonders of Japanese animation. The point when I realize it's more than just mere cartoon (with Ghibli's works throwing the hard, if not final punch)

Heh. I never just tell people the origin of my handle. I try to get them to guess, first, with a hint or two. And I know that there are plenty of people on this list old enough to possibly know the answer to the origin of my name. ;D

A spanner is a British term for a type of wrench, but that has absolutely nothing to do with why I chose my name. :P

In German, a Spanner is a peeping tom, though I had no idea about that when I chose the name (and I learned to my chagrin sometime later). :o

Spanner is a character from a comic book that ran in the late 80's / early 90's. A minor character that only appeared in a few issues of the comic book. Can anyone guess the comic book, who the character was, and what the character's role in the story was? 8)

Yup, that's it.  "Doctor" "Who" => "Mister" "What."  Some college friends gave me that nick way back around 1989, I think.

After multiple viewings of Dragon Half, I got a big kick out of Dick Saucer.  So, I started using the handle in chatrooms and BBS. After awhile, people who got to know me started calling me Saucer for short. So, the shortened version eventually stuck. Plus, I got tired of boards with swear filters changing it to "thingy Saucer"

I gave myself the name Raven for my net alias starting back around 2000.  Then during my short attempt at college my peers refered to me As Raven instead of my real name, mainly cause i used it in  LAN games and i liked the name alot ^^

Before that i was DK Anime (Dark Knight Anime) the DK refered to a chat room group I was in back in Geocities old Tokyo chat room (before they merged with Craphoo and shut down the geocities servers) and Anime was short for Anime Freak, my old 1997-98 handle (I started on the net back in december 1997)

Shayla's Raven is simply a reference that I am Shayla's Raven. Eheh.  ^^;

Well, mine's pretty easy.

This being an El-Hazard forum, you gotta be a complete Asshead not to know where I got this handle from.

So, LGJ, where *did* you get it from?

I know, I know.

Hang on, I'll do it myself...

*BANG!*

Well, when I first got on the net, I was Oni, or Oni Kamadaki. (Oni being the Japanese word for "demon")

Next, I was Elyrka Redsmith, the name coming from a name generator. It seemed quite novel, at the time. (Yeah, I'm a simpleton)

Then, to save your poor fingers, I was El. This, weirdly, has stuck and has now evoled into two alter egos, El Redsmith, and El Barton (Gundam Wing referance,)

Now, I'm El The Istari, which has nothing to do with much, but hey, I'm counting down till Rotk is released.

:D

Edit: Spanner, you're not named after a spanner?!

Nope! As I said above, I'm named after an obscure comic book character. 8)

Well, I, like El, was origanally known as something else, but I cana't remember what it is. Then, one day, along came a wonderful LotR name genorater, and BINGO! It came up with Larewen for my Human middle earth name. Evenstar is the last name of Arwen in LotR (or one of her last names) Larewen sounds like arewen, so I stole her last name.

Larewen Evenstar. ;D

and oh, nice avatar...never saw it before ('n I;ve had my mad days of web browsing for pics), did you draw it yourselves?....expression's kinda non representative, but still nice

Spanner, could you please at least tell the type of comic?
superher style (x=men), humor (quincy), general et ctc

Aye, Xel was originally none other than a tribute to Xellos, the terribly fruity Trickster Priest of Slayers fame.  ;D A friend drew parallels between his personality and mine, and, well...

Though now it's become so much my own that I tend to blink in confusion whenever someone mentions "Xel" in a Slayers context. ^_^;

My old, old handle was Musashi-chan, but amusingly, it wasn't of the Pokemon variety, but rather of the more obscure Brave Fencer variety. XD After a while I adopted a friend's abandoned moniker of Chibi-X, and then it transformed into good ol' Xel-chan somewhere down the road.

More than you cared to know, I'm sure.  :P

For the record, I used to go by "Dark Id" a lot, as well. And the origin of that? Well, at the time I was really into the whole duality thing, with there being good and bad in everything and stuff. Dark Id was the name I came up with for my "evil side". Not that I had a particularly evil evil side. ^^;

I'd have to go with superhero, but that's slightly misleading...

Oh, well, no reason I can't be misleading! ;D

It was a Marvel comic, though. That should narrow it down a little.

If no one guesses in a day or two, I'll just tell you all. 8)

Or, "someone" could cheat and Google an answer (http://www.nofuture.org.uk/transformers/us_comic.shtml?issue=18).

Shame on you, Mr. What, for resorting to the nefarious powers of the Black Knight Sir Chenjin! :P

But yes, that is, indeed, the Spanner I named myself after. Don't ask me why; it just seemed like a cool idea at the time. It was, most likely, my favorite storyline from that particular comic.

Here's another link (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Station/6563/spanner.html), the one I was going to present if no one guessed.

Me? draw? I wish!  ^^;

I found it on a Japanese fanart page a while back. The artist was really skilled in my opinion ^_^ There were a few other EH pics too, mostly featuring Jinnai, Diva, or TV Ifurita. But there was one with Alielle and Fatora as well. Unfortunately I lost the link, but I have the images stored on my hard drive in my large anime picture archive  8) (At least, all the ones that were present when I last visited)

I got my nick from the very first time when I played StarCraft. I realized pretty fast that I was fascinated by the Protoss, so that I took the nick by the way the Protoss were calling the player in story-mode. Later on in the Battlenet I found out that there was another user registered with this nick so that I added 82 on it, which is the year I was born  ;D

That's why I used to call me executor82 since then everywhere I am. In Counterstrike, TacOps, StarCraft and in forums etc.

Post by: dooky on September 08, 2003, 06:04:20 am
Well, like all the best names, 'dooky' comes from a reference so obscure that absolutely nobody I've ever met has successfully guessed its origin. It does in fact come from the song title 'Spooky Dooky' by Pink Kross. The term 'dooky' is meaningless, or so I thought... until I started reading Jhonen Vasquez's comics -_- Ah well, too late to change it now.
