By any chance, do you have some form of Windows XP?
Because in the pic, thats what it looks like.
Cool desktop, BTW. mine usually has some form of anime image, but right now its a pic of Rosh. ::)

Whoa, sweet wallpaper SR! Where did ya get it?
OK, here's my desktop (http://www.angelfire.com/games5/hvgmh/wallpaper.jpg). I have to warn you, it's a bit ecchi I suppose. But hey, I really like Neo Ranga, so............ ^_^;
-
Ah Mac OS X. Its been in my mind fer a while :) Its a good Unix OS. But XP still rules ;)
Oh, and yep my desktop is Windows XP Professional, the interface has been skinned using a custom theme via StyleXP and WinXP's built in theme system. Couldnt take the standard XP look anymore 8)
And my wallpaper, i got it from wired visual binaries.
Click below if ya want it.
http://www.wiredvisualbinaries.com/
I actually have over 100 walls on my hard drive from different animes. All are in pure bmp format, n take up together over 300 megs.

Oh, here's a shot of my Mac's OS 8 desktop (Ifurita again :P)
Hope you enjoy it ^_^

I thought it was.
Personally, I prefer PC's because they are easier to use.
I like the desktop. I think i've got that wallpaper somewhere on my PC.
-
68K Mac emulation, heh. What do you do with that? :P
And I WOULD post my desktop, but my current image is less than stellar... (Ifurita staring at the school. Wooo. XD)
-
Just changed mine actually... is non-El Hazard ;D

I remember wondering if I could design some wallpapers. That sort of fell through when I realize that I'm just not good at that. I prefer to write anyway.
Here's an image of the desktop I made.

Well right now I've not got a EL-Hazard wallpaper I have this one I made of Ginkan from .Hack//SIGN
http://hometown.aol.co.uk/NikBritton/Desktop.jpg
But I have made a Shayla Shayla wallpaper which you can see here

I use a wallpaper changing utility, and I've set it to choose a random paper when I restart my computer. And I'm still using Win98, so I restart my computer a lot ;)
Anyway, here's the first El-Hazard image (http://echoalpha.com/tmp/20030623_Desktop_1024x768.png) that came up since I noticed this topic. (This is a huge 1024x768 PNG image-- load at your own risk.) It's just a download from animewallpapers.com (http://www.animewallpapers.com/).
It's fun to try to recognize the taskbar icons in these desktop caps. I'm not sure I remember what all of mine are.
-
Yes... you have a helluva lot of quick launch buttons. O_o
I try to limit myself to no more than four at the most; Show Desktop, Media Player 6.4, Outlook Express, PowerDVD. That's all I ever foreseeably want to launch quick-like.
-
Ah Mac OS X. Its been in my mind fer a while :) Its a good Unix OS. But XP still rules ;)
Aside from occasionally deciding to change some of my system settings by itself at random, OS 10.2 is the best operating system I've ever worked with. WinXP is OK, as far as MS OS' go (I have to warn you, aside from XBox, I'm extremely anti-Microsoft. But I try to behave myself for social reason. ^^; ). My one major gripe about XP is, why do they say you never get a blue screen of death. when I get at least one a month at work? ^^;

Ah...... kimochi (this feeling). ^.^
Personally, I prefer PC's because they are easier to use.
See, most people say that because they're just not familiar with the way a Mac OS works. It's easier, IMHO ^^;
BTW, anyone see Apple's new Pentium-killer G5 Power Mac? ::runs before another violent computer debate starts::
-
How about SENDING a G5 Macintosh so Rob can develop on there? :P
-
Moogle Cavern, where I also frequent, already went over the G5 business. It's great and all, true 64-bit processing power I hope (as opposed to just "dual 32-bit" fake 64-bit processing). But the true performance will only reign on software designed for true 64-bit. Which means all your old stuff won't get a full kick. :P

So far, ive been blue screen free. And i started using XP in October. Sure, ive had the rare freezeup during a shutdown (which is nothing major anyways) but besides that, nothing. :-/ Although im using XP Professional Corporate Edition, which is insanely stable (XP Home Edition sucks :P) Ah well, I like Mac OS X too but Macs have never been popular with me.

Nope, Didnt know they existed o.o; We'll see how they perform msoon enough I guess. The G4's have been outdated for years now >.< *runs with Saucer*

Here's another pic for the curious.
Its a shot of the desktop on my laptop (an old Pentium 100mhz with 40mb ram, Win98SE, maxed out, etc.)

Amusing pic. :P
As for the interwoven topic:
XP is generally stable, but any machine that's run in a stressful enviornment (work) is bound to be more busy than you can imagine (especially if on a network, where its running signals all over whether or not you're even thinking about it.)
I don't have any real problem with Macs (electronics are electronics, I love 'em all), but they're too damn expensive. I can spend $200 and buy a new motherboard, processor, case, memory included on the IBM side of things. Can't do that for a new Mac.
-
You know, the REAL problem with Windows XP is that it's just about impossible for me to read "XP" without seeing the emoticon instead.
Bleah!
XP
-
I know, I know... when it first came out, a buddy of mine said "It's like Microsoft is mocking us." Someone else noted the sequel would be "Windows XD"
-
Well, here's a problem for ya all! My dad got a new scanner, it's a Canon one, and he's trying to install it. After he's installed it, he tries the whole 'scan in' thing, but it doesn't work because it says that no device is detected or something like that.
The only way he can install it is using Twain, so you guys have any idea's what to do?
-

LOL! You think if I had 3 grand to blow on a new comp I'd send it to Rob? (no offense buddy ^^; )

True dat. We have alot of security programs on our public stations at the library I work at. They don't help matter. Oh yeah, and Adobe Acrobat Reader! Arrggghhhh, can't they just please write a version that's actually compatible with XP? -.-

Yup, they're pricey. That's for sure. I don't mind splashing the extra dough on them though. You can usually get upgrade processors and things for most towers though, even older 68k ones.
-
You can usually get upgrade processors ... even older 68k ones.
Not anymore or I would've done that by now and ported EHPC properly. It doesn't even show up on eBay or anything (though I suppose I don't search THAT often for it.)
-
Well, I'm not sure what model number your Quadras are. But you could try http://eshop.macsales.com/Accelerators/index.cfm
-
Quadra 950. Check out the MASSIVE results. ;p
-
You could probably find a G3 Power Mac on eBay if you wanted one. I know those are upgradable. ^^;
-
There's a bunch. I almost bought one once... but it's $200. And I already need to work something like 3 or 4 months to get out of the hole I'm in. So money like that can't be so easily splurged.
Besides, I'm gonna get into 3D now I hope. I'll probably need a half-decent somewhat-modern Mac that's gonna kick it with OpenGL.

Sounds good man. If you wait long enough and save your pennies, the right Mac will drop right in your lap. You could even do with a later model G3 iMac, one made on or after Fall 1999. Just make sure you pick up one with a slot-loading drive (as opposed to a tray). The earlier iMac will only take up to 192MB RAM and it's a pain in the ass to get them open and apart. -.-
-
Hm well, it's been a while... Anyway, my desktop usually goes together with my winamp, trillian/icq theme.
At the moment it's Lain (the first bright one, I usually have dark ones).

I just finished installing Red Hat 6.2 on my p100 laptop, n here's my KDE desktop :D enjoy!

I finally installed the MacOSXP Theme with Style XP and I really like it.

I'll go get a copy of my desktop, just give me a second.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/181128/desktop1.jpg
that was last weeks
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/181128/desktop2.jpg
And this is this weeks. I change my wallpaper every week.

I'm currently switching back and forth between two mushy Ifurita/Makoto wallpapers I've made. My photoshop is a bit amateurish, but if anyone wants to take a look you can find them here:
http://home.bwave.com/starknight/ifurstuff.htm
I'm always tweaking them and/or taking them into the local library where they have the shiny new photoshop with all the options mine lacks. :'(
-
Unrelated -- AIM icons! Another thing I ought to store locally. :P
-
You're welcome to my collection if you want 'em, and I'd happy to make more. I have time on my hands right now and it's become a hobby/obsession of mine.

Your local library offers patrons access to Photoshop? Wow, that's pretty cool. At the library I work at, the terminals are pretty much for internet and catalog searching. And that's it. People are alwasy flipping out because we don't offer word processing. 5hrugg4g3
-
We're pretty lucky that way. The library here has word processing, photoshop, and most of the Office stuff open to the public. I sometimes go in and spend the day just experimenting with pictures. ;D
-
hehe, everytime my windows starts up, I have it hooked up where it starts up Jinnai's crazy laugh. it scares the hell out of my room mates because its loud. hehe. I like spooking people, guess that's why halloween is my fav time of year. hehe
-
Whenever I stay on a computer for more than I couple hours, I'll download some wallpaper from this page (http://animewallpaper.de/wallpaper/El-Hazard) and start using it. I've even got known at work for "infecting" workstations with "that strange cartoon wallpapers". :P
Currently, I have this image (http://animewallpaper.de/wallpaper/El-Hazard/elhazard_01_1024?full=1) on both my notebook's (Windowmaker (http://www.windowmaker.org/) over Gentoo Linux (http://www.gentoo.org/)) and workstation's desktop area.
-
awww, I like that image, Helio. ^^ I would use this one signature I had a friend make for me if I could figure out how. its really cute. here is the link for it
http://www.sharemation.com/crimsonclover82/Ifurita.jpg
-
*sneaks it in*
Edit your profile and move it if you like. But that's all there is to it. ;)
Oh, and if I'm right, the Ifurita image on the far right of your sig image was first designed for the Saturn game. But I could be wrong. Still, it's the first place I remember seeing it... they wanted to give some seriousness type depth to the TV Ifurita character I think.
-
awwww, thanks, Rob! I just think its so pretty to hide away in subspace! Yesh, I love my tv ifurita sig. she's so cute and she looks so lost with those large eyes all like a sad kitty you just want to lift up into your arms and cuddle close. ^^ I likes it alot and I can't thank you enough for helping me *hugs*
whee, now I need to go off and rant about my work day, see ya! *runs off waving keystaff around jubilantly*
