A much better match, in my opinion, is Hyatt, from Excel Saga:

Hyatt, of ACROSS

For a while after I first saw her, but had not yet managed to memorize her name, I referred to her as "That Ifurita-lookin' girl".

Heh.  As I recall, that was that day I was with you at Wilson's place in Edina.  A friend of mine who had recently completed two semesters of study in Tokyo said "hey, you guys thought Dragon Half was over the top, you've GOT to see this!" and popped in the fan-sub.   And we experienced the lunacy that is Excel Saga.  I laughed so damn hard I tried to narf pizza out my nose.  I wouldn't suggest recommend one attempt to eat and watch Excel Saga at the same time.

But yes, the resemblance to Ifurita was uncanny.  She was even found in a sarcophagus looking thingy.  One wouldn't think that one could laugh at someone afflicted with tuberculosis, but somehow Hyatt's creators managed just that.  I suppose it's ironic how Hyatt so resembles Ifurita, though Ifurita appears to have the constitution of a pack mule.

Fans of Evangelion might even suggest Hyatt bears a strong resemblance to Maj. Katsuragi, though the similarities end there given Misato's wild and crazy personality.

Then there's a mysterious women from De:Vadasy. She appears only twice, in the command trailer. But she looks like Iffy and has curly hair, although it's brown. I don't know her name, she's just a background chara. ^^;

Adcock...is this what you had in mind in your HnA fanfict when Ifurita actually CUTS her hair?  (Oh, the humanity!)  :)

Looking at it this way I don't think I mind too much.  Saucer might be the only one who can back me up on this, for I thought the pict above resembled Raisa Vogel from Outlanders (any other Manabe fans here?)

El-Hazard Online / An Ifurita look-alike?

Yes they are the four gods of the four directions in chinese mythology and Feng Shui. However, those are their Japanese names. Suzaku; Crimson Phoenix of the South. Seiryu; Azure Dragon of the East. Genbu; Black Tortoise of the North. Byako;  White Tiger of the West. And yes, I am getting all this from Fushigi Yuugi (See anime and manga really do teach you new things and even change your life sometimes!). ^_^; I believe there's also sometimes a fifth one, a Gripphon. At least according to the "Boogie Woogie Feng Shui" episode of Cowboy Bebop. Heh heh

This thread over on the Non list got me thinking about when my wife and I recently finished watching Fushigi Yugi.  (It's an enjoyable series and highly recommended by yours truly.)

One of Byako's servants was actually an old woman when Miyaka and the Suzaku Seven first meet her.  But later she and her husband (who turned out to be Tamahome's sensei) took on the visage of their younger days--and she was a spittin' image of Ifurita! (Well, the FY character's hair was more white than it was blue-grey but even so the resemblance was uncanny, veil and all!)

The Ifurita look-alike only had a few minutes of screen time total toward the end of the series, which was moving too fast and frantically for me to catch her name.  Anyone know who our mystery warrior is?  And can anyone find a pict of her to share?

I liked #2 quite a bit.  It looked quite natural on her.  I liked #8 also despite Rob's comment about it appearing too close to the original.  That's part of why I like it.  It's not quite the same but close, something that might have resulted from different "lighting."  Almost makes the frame seem more closer to real life with the #8 coloring.

Yes.  That's the one.  I do believe you'll enjoy it and would suggest same for the other list members, especially those with a fondness toward Ifurita.

Please post some feedback here after you view it!  I for one would certainly enjoy reading your impressions of the work.

Since you like the "Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot" video so much, you might as well get the karaoke-version, which was made for a German convention last year. (Yep, same video only with subtitles. ^_°)

http://194.97.4.53/StudioHybrid%5BADL%5D-Karaoke-Live.zip

I've also seen quite a lot El Hazard amvs on animemusicvideos.org... but most of them are not available for downloading. ;_; (Maybe the good ones, since almost all I know are not good...)

I still got a few ones on my hdd, like: Alchemy of Love, Bugthumping (Otaku Outpost), Kindred Spirits (Sandrock Productions, only crappy rm), Plenty (Ryoma), Superman's Theme (Jonathan Backer), World of Dreams (Sandrock Productions, only crappy rm), Ifurita my Superman (Studio Fluffy)

Raven was mentioning in another thread about whether an EH AMV exists for Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life."  I had offered then that the lyrics really told Ifurita's life story during the time she met Makoto who subsequently freed from her bondage.  It's available on the AMV.org site also.  I've downloaded it and enjoy it muchly.  I think the readership here might want to try downloading it too.

Say, if you've already got in dl'd and have higher-speed internet access than I do (I've only got dial up out here in the flatlands) maybe you could send it along to Rob for posting here on the site.  I think a good number of folks here would enjoy it.

Greetings, my fellow EHFC members.

My anime and manga interests are wide and varied. It all began as I suppose it does for most latetwentysomething and earlythirtysomething
listers here: sneaking down at 6:30 in the morning to watch Kimba and Speed Racer, then watching Battle of the Planets, then later  Voltron and finally Robotech (this all before we knew what "anime" was.) In college I experienced the requisite Bubble Gum Crisis, Akira, and became hooked on the Heavy Metal motion picture. (OK OK not anime per se but a cult favorite.) By this time I'd found out there were actually COMIC SHOPS where one could buy manga. While not manga in the strict sense, I'm sure there are other fans of Steven A.
Gallacci, Stan Sakai and Reed Waller/Kate Worley on the group: it was about this time I first became a fan of their anthropomorphic work. I did collect every Macross/Robotech comic I could get my
hands on and ate up everything by Johji Manabe (Outlanders, Caravan Kidd and more recently Drakuun.) Miyazaki's Nausicaa was also one of my early favorites. After picking up Ben Dunn's adaptation of Captain Harlock, I began Ninja High School. That more
than anything set the hook for me, as I immediately began wondering where all these "walk on" anime characters were coming from in the NHS plotline (Salusian fanservice notwithstanding. ;) )

I fell off the wagon for a few years while I pursued some other interests, namely "railfanning" (people who stand trackside watching trains go by, naming off the model, builder, and horsepower rating of every locomotive that rumbles by. A train otaku, you could say.)
.
.
.
During college I had obtained a Commercial Driver's License. I got back into manga when I was driving tractor trailer on the weekends hauling mail between Minneapolis and Chicago to earn some extra pocket change. I needed something to pass the time on my layovers, so began toting various trade paperbacks with me in my grip. I tore up Battle Angel Alita and the collected Nausicaa with a vengeance. This was also when I'd started picking up Oh! My Goddess and Gunsmith Cats. I'd also become familiar with Rumiko Takahashi's works at this time and began collecting Ranma, Inu Yasha, and Maison Ikkoku (probably my all time favorite) in trade paperback form.

It was also about this time I first began spreading my wings as a fan fiction author. If any of the list is interested I'll be happy to direct you to a link of my own works set in Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita timeline. At various Midwestern anime conventions I've had
pleasure to meet a number of fellow fictwriters and engage in wondeful C&C with them (usually while consuming libations in generous amounts. ;) in fact, John Biles was often among them along with other Ranmaverse writers like Greg Sandborn, Richard Lawson, Nick Liefker, Travis Butler, and the nefarious Zen.)

More recent favorites include Neon Genesis Evangelion and Child's Toy (known as Kodocha in comic form.) Other short series I've picked up in either manga or anime form include 801st Airbats, You're Under Arrest, AD Police, Spirit of Wonder, Legend of Kotetsu, All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, Dual! and Tenchi Universe. Being a Kishiro fan I've enjoyed Aqua Knights and
await the coming of the new Battle Angel Alita adaptation. I pick up Animerica Extra and Super Manga Blast at every opportunity because I've been enjoying each publication's serieses a great deal.

.
.
.
Time and again I've seen references to EH anime music videos. I was absolutely stunned back in '98 at Anime Central when I saw Neon Genesis Evangelion set to Europe's Final Countdown. More on topic,
at Ken's urging I downloaded the the Sarah Brightman Once In a Lifetime El Hazard video by Michael Ko. Wonderful piece of work, that. Watch it every chance I get!

Now since I first wrote this, of course, I did finish the fan fict work with Ken Wolfe (Rough Justice has already been talked about in detail elsewhere on the EH forum.)  And I've continued to watch anime.  Saw the Sakura Diaries once.  I've had chance to watch the original Tenchi OVAs and the three movies (liking the last one the most, though being an Ayeka fan less than pleased at the less-than-subtle hintings at just which girl was Tenchi's favorite.)   I've also really enjoyed Fushigi Yugi and Princess Nine.  Can't beat the Miyazaki flicks--you can pick up Castle In The Sky, Princess Mononoke, and Kiki's Delivery Service at Sam's Club for under ten bucks each on DVD.  Saw the first four eps of Nadesico and enjoyed them a lot!  I have yet to see more of Trigun and Captain Tylor but saw the first few eps and definitely want to see more!  (Kudos to Spanner for bringing over Tylor to Wilson's place for our enjoyment.)  Of course that was the same day when a friend who had lived in Japan had introduced us to the insanity that is Excel Saga, but that's another story.  (And I thought Child's Toy was over the top!)

My wife Sonia and I also used to watch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network but fell off the wagon after we moved into our new house out in the sticks.  We watched enough Inu Yasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Cowboy Bebop to want to see more.  Those are on the list, although I've got the Blue Seed Perfect Collection and the combined Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars (again courtesy of Spanner-san) already sitting on my mantle (which serves as my impromptu viewing queue.)

So I figure with all those that I know about today that I'd like to watch, at my current viewing rate I'll be an anime fan for at least the next five years or so.  ;)  Seems though that these damn previews on these DVDs keep introducing me to more and more series I think "hey, that looks interesting!"  So I'm probably hooked for life.

Hmm, just occured to me that I've never watched the Alternative World.  Guess the period in between Ifurita's descent into the Eye of God and her retrieval from Earth just doesn't appeal to me that much.  I want more of Makoto's Ifurita!

So for your consideration, let me present Ken Wolfe's work:

http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html

Some have said that if ever there were an OVA 3 that Ken has already written the screenplay.  His "Earth" and "Reunited" stories give an engaging and satisfying account of the struggles Makoto and Ifurita face even after their reunion and the challenges that face all the cast members in the years to come.  It was after reading the first few manga issues and reading Ken's work that I decided to pick up the OVAs on DVD.

I am a big fan of Makoto's Ifurita myself, so found Ken's work to be very enjoyable.  I believe so too shall you.

BTW: In 1986 was running home every day after school to watch Robotech before I even knew what "anime" was.  :)  The Palladium Books "paper n' dice" Robotech RPG was a significant pastime for my friends and I in college.  And of course I've got a bookshelf full of the McKinney novels.  So I found your UN Spacy links interesting to say the least.  ;)

Back in 2001 I posted the story of how I became acquainted with El Hazard to the Yahoo! Groups El Hazard Fan Club forum, where I first met folks such as Erin-chan, Dooky, Amanda Dale, Mr. What and Spanner.

I've included it below in part, being relevant to the topic at hand:

Animerica Extra and Super Manga Blast at every opportunity because
I've been enjoying each publication's serieses a great deal.

Then there is El Hazard.  I attribute my latecoming the the EHFC due
to the fact I caught a very brief portion of the OVA 2 back in '98 at
an anime club meeting in The Cities (it was the part where Shayla
allows herself to be seduced by Fatora thinking it's Makoto.)  For
some reason it didn't really stick with me.  I blew it off entirely
until I was reading the Animerica Extra issue in which the EH manga
was previewed.  Those of you who haven't seen it...it was a wonderful
adaptation of the scene in which Makoto meets Ifurita for the first
time under Shinonome High.  Just from the three page preview I was
hooked!  I've collected the manga since and have purchased the EH DVD
box set.  In fact I'm looking forward to watching it again when
Spanner-san and I manage to get together.

I've also taken great pleasure reading some very literarily sound and
satisfying El Hazard fan fiction.  My favorites include the work of
Ken Wolfe ("Earth" and "Reunited") and Alan Harnum ("Mortal
Engines"...I'd like it more if he actually finished it!)  I did see a
rather intriguing fanfic post from our own Herr (or Fraulien?  I'm
confused!) Dititrich way back in the day describing a notably
different way in which Ifurita might later relate to Makoto after
their reunion.  I'll agree with Erin:  it was certainly a worthy
effort by a non-Anglophone to create a credible piece of work.

And I might be creating some new fanfiction of my own.  I'll leave it
to you all to tell me whether you'd be interested in reading it
here.  Some of you might want to check out my GUNNM body of work,
then tell me whether you want such rabble clogging up your in-
baskets.

I've got some wonderful ideas that I might need fleshing out.  I had
the distinct pleasure of meeting Ken Wolfe in person last weekend in
Fargo, North Dakota (well, yeah, but it was halfway between Ken's
native Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and my Minnesota Twin Cities.)  He
and I have been enjoying a delightful correspondence that has only
served to awaken my sleeping muses.  I hope I might "get by with a
little help from my friends" as it were.

Time and again I've seen references to EH anime music videos.  I was
absolutely stunned back in '98 at Anime Central when I saw Neon
Genesis Evangelion set to Europe's Final Countdown.  More on topic,
at Ken's urging I downloaded the the Sarah Brightman Once In a
Lifetime El Hazard video by Michael Ko.  Wonderful piece of work,
that.  Watch it every chance I get!  I've got a few ideas for
creating AMVs of my own but will need some technical assistance at
some point.
.
.
.
My apologies for the lengthy post, friends.  I wanted to give you
some background on me in the hopes we'll discover our common
interests, not the least of which is El Hazard.  I'm an Ifurita (OVA
1) devotee.  I am particularly fond of the relationship we see
developing between them in OVA 1 and Ken Wolfe's rendition of its
continuance in his work.  And while I prefer watching my anime
dubbed, I do believe there is room for improvement in vocal direction
and casting.  Maybe if more production houses paid SAG going rate...

Looking forward to being a member of the community.  Until next
time...

And the madness continues.  I now have all the EH manga in both loose comic and trade paperback form.  I've downloaded several EH anime music videos that tend to focus primarily on Makoto and Ifurita, including ones set to such varying music types as Celene Dion's "You Look At Me" and Evenescence's "Bring Me to Life."  Of course there are now additional forays into El Hazard fan fiction for the community to enjoy, thanks to my collaboration of the aforementioned Mr. Wolfe and the support of my fellow online EH fans, including those here and still with the EHFC forum.

Not bad, I figure, given the last new EH series was released in Japan several years ago now.  With the release of the Wanderers and TAW box sets, I hope the fandom will enjoy some momentum for some time.
