Well, this is going back quite a bit.  However, if I do recall, you said something along the lines of El-Hazard being this great series and that I was almost crazy for even phrasing it as a question ;)

Either way, your name among the few other reponders was burned into my brain.  You seemed like the type I'd like to know about.  (As opposed to the one other fella who happened to sound kind of out there)  I was anxiously awaiting a time when I could email you with something really totally great going on at the site but never thought of anything worth your, or any of the other people I bothered, attention.

CURIOSITY STRIKES:  I go to your little tripod page.

My my, your personality is so off the wall I think I really could get along with you ;)

Add? Uh...I dunno. Fanfic/Fanart type stuff, it's extremely lacking in the El Hazard world. There is some but not nearly enough.

I have thought of this many times before... however, I'd feel stupid putting up such a thing with maybe 2 or 3 total images... if I have a nice pool to dig into, I'll do it, just like I didn't feel comfortable trying a forum until I had a nice pool of people to possibly use it.  Hasn't been incredibly successful yet, but, hey...

Actually just ignore me, I'm just trying to encourage it so I'll be more inspired to write it.

You write?

Ooh I know! You could have a section talking about the different languages that El Hazard has been translated in and do a compare and contrast kind of thing...uh...or...not.

Actually Neil is supposedly working on that with a quite a few other very interesting El-Hazard topics.  If he'd just finish them, he'd enlighten us all on quite a few things.  ;)  So far only I have read some of his character insights, and there's almost an element of psychology on them, so they are quite superior.

and the sup and sub scripts... wtf are those anyway?

Superscript and subscript.  One puts the the characters up higher, like a power-to number, a la 42.  The other places it low and has less regular application.

Oh yeah the table thingie doesn't work.

Well, keep in mind I hacked, not designed, this forum ;)  I don't even really honestly know how those work or if they work at all (I would think they do, this is a release version of YaBB)

Well, another improvememnt would be good is a story section. I can NEVER get my minds of El-Hazard and nor can i do the same with Phantasy Star Online. So i start mixing up sotries and such. Submitting yer own stories might be interesting, yet not needed...

Um ... you mean like cross-continuity or alternate-existance stories?

Well These are just MY thoughts, but hey i'd be making a big fat story for whatever i can think of! yeaaaa!... Ahem. It is just my thoughs on another thing i am thinking of right now. Something wierd, something eerie. The Halloween banner was eerie enough.

A cool little Neil trinket it is.

Give this site some major thought onc eou have the free time. Yer always talkin' to me on AIM but is it that yu actually have the time?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  I do often work on the core implements of the site when on AIM.  (That is, if I'm NOT on AIM, I'm probably not at my computer)

One last thing. How is the game coming along rob?

The *ahem* "unofficial" project is supersceded by website work.  ;)  If I ever get to the point where the sucker is worth talking about, however, this place will be the first to know...

I don't get to speak to many of you personally, so I just want to know, how are me and Neil doing?  I'm the one who pretty much makes the calls around here as to what goes where, though Neil helps too.

I just want a little commentary...
What do you think of how I do my operations here?  Is there anything you'd like to see me add / delete?  Does anything really irk you about me or the site?

And out of curiosity... any of you know somebody you'd like to drag over here? ;p

Hey there are still a few pages there.

Indeed there are.  Actually this type of mass failure along with sites that don't stay on-topic or do it rather poorly is what inspired me to take up on this project in the first place.

Otherwise, I would've found that ultimate El-Hazard site and just made my niche there ;)

Let's play a game; find out how many of these sites cause 404 or similar errors.  If it doesn't cause a 404 error, let's see how "on - El-Hazard" it stays...

Well, if I were to go down such a route, Fujisawa is an all-in-one for this purpose ... Ifurita would make for DBZ-fighter goodness style anyway (energy and MW2 style physical whacking) ... I guess the Wanderers Ifurita would make for clumsy energy misfires (powerful but uncontrollable as it were) ... Nanami could use some cookware among her already agile body that I'm sure could do high-kicks ;p

Priestesses are fairly given...

You could have Jinnai riding on Groucho to get the best of both worlds.

Animation could just be based on any of the fighter titles produced in the past on the SNES+ platform ;p

They can't make a fighting game like i had in mind

Sad truth is, I had such a thing in mind too... fighting games never make sense, but I just think there'd be something funny about having one ;p

Assuming then you mean "net friends", to be precise, and you're in the "west coast", I'm assuming USA coast-talk.  :P

... WHERE in the East coast, do you know?  I'm hanging on the edge of it over here

Qawoor (or is it Qawool?)

Qawool unless you speak Engrish, my friend ;p  (English-speaking people have it slated and defined as "Qawool"; there are a few variations, mostly from people who misinterpret it from listening to the Japanese track.  (Y'know, the L and R sounds being mixed by native people who have trouble with them)

Music: ... the ending theme is something I really loathe.

I loathe it too.  Mostly it's the voice for me.  That girl just hits some really bad notes.  ;p

Basically, the best parts are with Jinnai and Fatora (and any supporting characters on hand). The rest have very dull or useless parts.

Actually, what it seems to me more then anything is that Alternative World is taking away on some fantasy and going for more serious to-the-point [El-Hazard] global occurances.  (In other words, making it more "real life" El-Hazard.)

Quote
(if you LIKE the closing. It just doesn't seem fast paced enough to be El-Hazard for me),

I just don't get the ending.  I think it's supposed to be Nanami lamenting over not getting Makoto when she could.  (Which makes it more all about her pondering it, which would probably explain the slowness)

No art gallery and very few chapter stops. No easter eggs from what I've heard.

At least none that we know of.  The lack of art gallery IS disapointing.  The few chapter stops seems to be something that both this one and Wanderers suffers from.  I don't have a lot of TV cartoon DVD's, but perhaps this is how they're all wired?  (They only run about 20 minutes each, what can you do, wire one for every 5?)

Quote
Another annoying niggle is that the DVD launches itself into the first episode from the start up, as opposed to letting you choose from the menu at first.

Don't know for sure, but I'll bet you this is a technical glitch, and I blame the producers :P
At least on PowerDVD I can just push the menu button and it jumps to it.  (The aggrivating amount of simplicity to the menu is also true for Wanderers; all around, both El-Hazard TV series are in the same boat as far as production is concerned)

welcome, it's getting really international here. *_*

So now you're off daughter and on Earth theory?  Man.  :P

Quote
If only to speculate us devolving into an arabian-esque planet, with humans and insects at war. ;)

Well, you can take into account where you land.  If the El-Hazard story core really is just time travel to a distant future (the Earth theory for those not in on it), a lot of factors including planetary rotation and the like might throw you into an odd location.  Currently our little present-day Arabian area is in a bit of a tiff... mix that with genetic engineering or some mutation from a bio-bomb, you have your instant giant humanoid insects born from a humanoid/insectoid woman.  Yes.

El-Hazard Online / I got another ... Fujisawa's Daughter?
« on: October 16, 2002, 01:00:26 pm »
This is something Neil pinned on me a while back; it come up casually at first, "Fujisawa's daughter in the ending of MW..."  I didn't know what he was talking about.  Long story short, he's referring to a particular image that comes in the ending of the original MW.  As most of you should know, the ending of MW features pastel images of all the El-Hazard characters on Earth.  We all know Makoto got back ... did perhaps the priestesses in addition to the Earth people all decide to go to Earth?  That's another topic for another time I suppose, but in the meantime, here's the image in question:

Ah, Fujisawa finally got to climb one of those Earth mountains again, y'know, the ones where it's cold and there's snow and such ;)
Next to him, we can clearly see another person.  Now, by default everyone on my side (me, my sister, my brother) instantly assume this to be Miz.  Who else, after all?  Neil persistently insists this is not Miz, but Fujisawa's daughter.

Here's the only known official shot of Fujisawa's indeterminable gender child, which came in Alternative World, much after MW was produced.

The only thing we can say for sure is that the child has brown hair.
The figure in the pastel image also seems to have brown hair.  (It's a tad hard to be 100% sure because the pastel's naturally have a little color distortion, but we'll accept the fact)

Also, the eyes, which you can't cleary see in that shot, are somewhat wide which, by El-Hazard standards, does typically indicate youth.  To illustrate:

The adult cast in the series typically have narrowed eyes...

And the children have wider eyes.

The only exception to this rule seems to be Katsuhiko and most of the student council.  Seems student government accelerates your eyeball aging process ;)  But this is the general "rule of thumb".

So the figure is short, seems to have brown hair, and is wide-eyed.  We don't know the person from the series, and can deduce that the long hair probably makes it female.

So ... Fujisawa's daughter is a logical conclusion and one that can be backed up...

I'm still irked, however, that the hair on the supposed "daughter" is the same style as worn by Miz.  Now, of course there can be motherly influence genetically and style-wise, so I maintain 95% convinced of Neil's point.

El-Hazard Online / Re: Dubbed versus Subtitled El-Hazard
« on: October 16, 2002, 12:26:40 pm »
I have a nifty insta-page I made for the MC a while back... no one cared for it particularly, but the uses keep coming up  :P

http://www.el-hazardonline.net/stuff/Jinnai/1/index.html
It displays a screenshot that includes the English Japanese subtitle, and below it is a link to an MP3 recording of the audio played in place of the subtitled line.  (EMBED's available, if your browser supports them, for convience)

There is a clean example of precise translation (the spoken line matched the subtitle exact), and example where the Japanese was modified for a more interesting line (more entertaining / less dull), and then finally an example of an English one-liner that just kicks the incredibly ... literal and expectable Japanese line out the window.

It took all of my 2 years of high school German to translate the email error ;)
