I guess they never made a ova 2 art book did they?

Hmm, not that I know of.  Though I suspect I've probably seen developmental materials related to it in the other books... at the moment I simply can't seem to remember whether or not OAV2 appeared where in the books, but I'm darn sure it was in there somewhere.  :P

As for the Alt World book... good luck.  I swear the thing only surfaces once every 6 months to a year on eBay.  You guys are lucky that I happened to get it.  :P

I know it's mostly none of the OVA1 books or Wanderers ones.

Question...

I vaguely recall that someone said one particular art book is very hard to find...

...and I realize I'm dooming myself if this happens to be the one...

but is this the one in question?

... I'm ... not quite sure what that is.  It looks interesting, although it suggests a couple possibilities of what it is.

Be grateful I didn't include any links to the three hentai doujinshi out there. :)

Posted about 1/2 hour later..

Never mind. I see you've already...archived them...

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to wash my brain with acid to remove a particular image dealing with "Altnerative Equipment"...

It's not an artbook and unless you must own every single scrap of El-Hazard merchandise, it's nto even worth owning.

It's book #3 of a a three book set of what could be called "tele-Manga."

Basically all they did was cut, crop, and paste a bunch of screen shots from the 1st OVA and added word balloons.  -_-

Damn, am I being a buzzkill these days?

No, okay, that's what I figured it was.  I call those the "comicifications" of the series.  I don't care, as long as I know what it is.  Though I did hear from someone that they have a few nice images in there anyway?

No, you just saved me at least $20. Much appreciated.

Film comics usually are a yet another cog in the anime merchandising machine, especially when there's already an exisiting manga for the franchise. But if they're really well done, they can be a nice little addition to a collection of your favorite series. I have a few nice ones of Urusei Yatsura and Megazone 23. It's pretty common for nearly every Studio Ghibli film to get the film comic treatment. The Utena movie "Apocalypse of Adolesence" also got the film comic treatment, though Chiho Saito later drew a new manga for it as well.

But film comics can also be original creations. There have been a couple mecha manga that were done by building diorama sets and models and photographing them. There are also occasionally stories done using actors and models who pose before the camera. The rockstar manga that Ilpallazo is reading in one of the earlier episodes of Excel Saga is a reference to this type of film comic.
