Well, I've got minor writer's block.  More like writer's speed-bump-- I just haven't gotten around to taking some time out to do some brain-storming.  :P

So I updated this list instead.  It's complete now.

http://echoalpha.com/fanfic/ElHazard_links.html

148 stories.  That's pretty much everything I could find, via FF.net, Usenet and Google.  Did I miss any?

There are two missing stories-- "The Continuance" (missing from IMSA) and  "Nightmares End, Dreams Beginning" (NC-17 fic dropped from FF.net).  Are these publicly posted anywhere else?

As in, two missing, suggesting a total of 150 El-Hazard fanfics ever known / written?

I really ought to look into these for inspiration, once I'm off the Saturn project (God willing, it might only be a week or two!), at which point I'll focus entirely on my BIG El-Hazard project, which essentially is glorified, interactive fanfiction (read: Fangame, fan-created video game).  Or rather, what I hope it becomes.  At this point it's nothing more then an undertested development engine... sketchy gameplay devices and a slightly buggy but high potential "live" cinematic engine.

Anyway, yeah.  Are there any stories that just cling to the top of your head, that I really should read?  The only thing I don't care for are cross-existance things, especially since those won't help me and I also usually don't know the cross-over show or don't agree it makes a "good" one. ;p  But any other content is fine with me, I'm trying to figure out what direction I really want to go, and what grounds I wish to tread, for one thing.

That infamous Jinnai / Shayla one spoken of some posts ago (by Fish I believe), real famous and whatnot, I loved it so I would almost directly implement it, only adjusting for post-AW timeline specs, as opposed to its pre-OAV2 (?) time slot.  But as the eternal curse forever loops, I don't really know if there would be a REASON to tread there, since I really don't know what I want do.

I put a lot of power into the hands of a creative mind that ... well, isn't by itself a fanfic writer's mind. :p  (Programmer hobbyist by nature, but with desire to create worlds.)

Oh, and should I test it enough and say that it's ready for some production work, then I would certainly enlist the help of any fanfic writers or at least heavy readers about the place.

Let me state some very important disclaimers.

I haven't read at least a third of those stories myself.  Jason Youngberg's two serials and Liam Roy's "Somewhere In Between" are on my To Read list, among others, as I write this.

These are by no means the only ones I like.  I kinda hate to make a list, because there are so few EH authors, and I really don't want to put someone off by leaving their story out.

And, ask me tomorrow, and I'll give you a different list.  But that's always the case.  So, having said all that...

These are the two "big ones."  They're both essential reading.

El-Hazard: Earth by Ken Wolfe
The Shape Of Things To Come by Dookychan

I'd also recommend these, among others.

The Adventures of Alielle and Fatora by Dookychan
(everything by Eponymous)
Caryatid by Vince Seifert
Fault by Fish <-- I like this one too  :-)
How Fatora Stole Christmas (and Shayla-Shayla) by Taloon
Mortal Engines by Alan Harnum (incomplete, abandoned)
Nemurenai by Emily Siazon
No Thanks for the Memories by Seto of Jurai
The Princess B*%$# by Erin (The Princess Bride parody)
Pure by EmpressGalaxia (only one chapter, dang it)
The Tale Of The Jinniyah And The King by Vince Seifert
Wandering Souls by Spanner (again, only one chapter, dang it)

And these are probably the best of mine (plug, plug):

The Charm / Hana Ni Arashi (my two "straight" serials)
The Alternative Amuck (uneven, but I still like most of it)
The Angst
Fatora Saga (Excel Saga parody)
Jinnai And The Bug (Pinky & The Brain parody, sort of)
Mind Trip
The Reception
Sad Girls In Snow
Scary Campfire Stories
What's It Like

Skip "Damn, It's Hot" and "Where We Came In"-- those two are clunkers  :P

I'm two for two   8)  I'm awfully busy in RL, with other things, but I'm interested.

FYI, is nicknamed "The Fujisawa Dance", and is definately the lowest point of my fangame creating hobby ever.  I mean, look at those legs, that "dance" is not even possible!  Argh.

But anyway, it encouraged me to take things to a whole new level... I just hope the new level is stable enough to make some an "illusion real"...

I did want to finish that, someday. It's been awhile since I saw TPB.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't read much fanfic, but I did really like "Fault".  ;D It think it proves that almost any premise can be made believable (of course, believable premises can also been done poorly). It all depends on the author.

I don't read a lot of fanfiction either, but that's only really because of a personality issue.  (Basically, I can't stand sitting still for a long period of time not actually producing something.)

But I do read fanfiction recommendations if they come about and I think I'll be interested.

Bloody hell, it's Erin!

Erin, the legendary originator of the first El-Hazard mailing list! Erin, who worked out that the Eye of God's genetic inheritance pattern was mitochondrial!

So yeah... hi, Erin!

Erin, whose avatar is labeled as "private content" by the server it originates from.  ;)

I feel bad I don't really know any of the "famous" people.  But alrighty.

The Adventures of Alielle and Fatora by Dookychan

I read the first one, I loved it. But then again, in my stable state of mind, I would. I'm a lesbian  ;D so I understood that more than most of you. No offence.

Moral of first story, very true.  ;D

My, such praise ^_^
I'm glad you liked my story, although I should point out that as the author, I'm actually not a lesbian. Wrong gender, gomen... (although as we know, deep down everyone's a lesbian)

I'm working on getting corrected versions of all my fics, complete with little banners and everything, up on my soon-to-be-launched website. Ironically, the one series I haven't fully converted yet is the Adventures of Alielle and Fatora.

I'm a lesbian.  In a male body.  *thwack*

Mm, arguements that wouldn't work with Fatora...

Lar (to Rob) - "Are you gay?"

What?

Listen, the joke is that a lesbian like girls, right?

He's just saying that he wants a girlfriend.

He's straight, just taking a long way around of saying it.
