Decided ta try random stuff with the Internet Wayback Machine, and managed ta pull up an archive of the old 'El Hazard: The Magnificant WWW' page.

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://member.nifty.ne.jp/oze/elhazard/index-e.html

Last updated in 98, but I think it still retains the original data.

Even found an old archive of This site, back in June of 2002.

Boy how the times have changed at EHO eh?  ;D

I'll BB later, More to come me thinks.

AFAIK you can still access it as a backup via
http://oze.oc.to/elhazard/old/index-e.html

I haven't checked it for functionality, though.  Oze finally randomly decided to redo it not too long ago.

Hmm.  I wonder why they haven't backed it up any time more recent?  Do you have to request a backup or something?  I mean, in case the worst happens, it'd be nice to think I might still exist.  :P

Of course, if we're interested in old, I still have several home page HTMLs.  (Even though most links won't work anymore.)  Usually when I'm doing a total redo of the main I'll rename the existing home page just in case it doesn't work, y'know?  So I've ended up with a few:

Version 1
Version 2
Version 3

Interestingly, I've never changed the way the news or the hit counter works, so they both still display correctly in any version of the page.  :P

Look at version 1's hit count display though with leading zeroes... 0027430.  Hopeful, aren't I? ;)

After checking these out myself, I also just noticed that Versions 2 and 3 will still link appropriately for the most part since I had started using the dynamic CGI page generation at that point.

In historical interest, you'll notice the limited use "Links" page and "Previous Updates" pages still in use today both feature the Version 1 motif and have never been updated for some reason.

I dunno about how it goes about backing up sites. Probably just crawls the internet, backing up as it goes. Thats alot of data  :-/ It SHOULD do another, can't go much longer without a backup i'd think.

Though in the near future, maybe I'll archive the site on mah hard drive for backup purposes. (as soon as I move out of this place, and get a high speed line for downloading)
Ive got the hard drive space ta spare.  ^_^V

Well, it's always good to have a redundant backup.  Of course, it'd be very silly of me not to back it up myself.   ;)  My dad's work threw out this really neato magneto-optical drive that I have hooked into our present server.  It really has the speed and functionality of a slightly slow harddrive with removable 1.3GB cartridges (four of which came with the drive!)

That's not a cheap toy, mind you.  Although I can't find the list price for it anymore since Maxoptix doesn't even mention it now, I know it was originally in the low thousands of dollars.

Of course, one of these days I should also back it up to something more generally compatible like CD-R.  Because obviously if our poor Maxoptix drive explodes along with the server, I'm up the proverbial creek without the proverbial paddle most likely.

Those would come in handy. Backup a-go-go  8)

I myself needta buy some bigger hard drives. My 30gb is nearly maxed out with stuff. My older 20gb is more or less empty (I currently use it for DVD ripping and DivX encoding) though I should back up my 61 hours of music and my 6 gigs of anime just in case.
Had a close call back in October of 2002 (my primary 40gb died after 3 months of use  >:( -_-) Luckily I had alot of backups. Though since then I've been lax on updating them. I'll probably do a huge backup when I head to my new place.

As in, when did I change my YaBB profile to reflect a customized name, or as in, you never read my last name before?  If the former, then it was a fairly recent change... somewhere in one of the "Non El-Hazard Online" topics.  If the latter, then ... meh.  I'm obviously NOT Robert DeNiro of Hollywood fame.  I'm merely Robert Showalter of ... no real fame to speak of except this website.   ^^;

It's just cute that Ismail's little son thinks that I actually am the Robert DeNiro because his father nicknamed me that.
