Again, that smiley came from a huge extended set of YaBB-style smileys, beginning at this page.  I just like using it because it's "compatible" with your YaBB smileys.

I was thinking of adopting it into the standard set because it's obviously so useful, but I'd still rather end up with an actual El-Hazard graphic set so I'm hesitant.  

Do you know if your custom El-Hazard set will have a sweatdrop smiley?  Maybe you could go ahead and add this one, and then replace it with an EH smiley later, at the same time all the others are replaced.

Not to push you into doing something you don't want to do... but it's work to type out that URL for my local GIF every time.  And, as you said, it's useful.  Given the recurring subject matter of recent discussions, I won't be able to stop using it any time soon.

Awesome! You the man, Rob. AnimeNation forums have some great anime-related smilies as well. A few of them would fit quite nicely with the EHOL set. Not sure if you're interested in further hacking the script, but there's a great bawling one. It does what   simply cannnot.

Anime gives you a whole different take on things, doesn't it?  I try to avoid using text anime smileys because I'm the only real anime otaku in my social circle, and no one else I know would recognize those bits of random text.  That, and I'm a 33YO guy, and they're a little, uh, cutesy?  I mean... well... you know:
