Well, you know Rob, most websites nowadays charge for admission. As I said at the beginning, I was actually willing to pay to become a member, and I think perhaps it would be a good way to siphon out the good members from the bad. AKA, the ones who are true fans of EH, and the ones who are just here for the sushi.  ;)

I'm not so sure that is actually a good idea, seeing as I don't have any money right now.
Maybe charge members who join in the future, but not the current members...okay, that is a bit harsh on them.
But I don't have the money to pay. I'll just occasionally, when I have the money, send you an envelope with a tenner in it.

How cruel.  :P  Nah, not yet... if my bandwidth were higher I could concider it, but even so, if I'm ever caught by anyone and found charging money for MP3's and other things (what the site holds) that's insult to injury.

Well would you send money to someone you never have met before in your entire life??? (nothing against you Rob!!!  ;) )

If you get known to the people you probably would, but right at the beginning? Naw! Then there wouldn't come any new members anymore. I think the system with the contributing is quite ok.

Well....actually if you're looking for porn in particulare, yes. But there is quite a bunch more things you can look for, for free.

I never would send anyone I don't know money through the net, regardless what he ever would give me for that!!!

Not a big fan of ebay or internet shopping ne?

I've been buying crap off the net for YEARS. Do I know the people who run Animecastle.com, Animenation.com,  Rightstuf.com, or Fujisan.com ? No... but I'll gladly send them money for my sweet sweet manga and anime! ;D

Ok, ebay and the other stuff may be something else. But I really can't trust the non-serious stuff, especially the porn!  :P

If I were on the other side of a "Pay to Enter" site about El-Hazard, I probably wouldn't.  The AnimeMusicVideos.org site wanted me to give them a donation or wait two weeks before I was allowed to start downloading!  Why would I want to pay for something I haven't ever even used yet?  Plus I don't think the cost is justified for charging me for stuff that they alone didn't really produce anyway.

Of course, alternatively Mark Engels just said something to the effect of "I tossed $25 their way since that was no big deal... but $25 is different to different people."  Which is true.  Maybe Mr. Engels can just toss money towards things at will, but I at the moment cannot be quite so loose.  ;)

But just to support my sister's point, it is true that if you buy off eBay you're effectively giving money to someone you don't even know.

True. But in that way, you know what you are paying for and you may be almost 100% sure to get it.

Something Rotten charges for membership, with the idea that paying people are going to take it seriously. But somehow, the whole idea just seems pretentious. What Rob could do is set up a PayPal account and slap a donation button on the bottom of the page, if people want to toss a few bucks his way to off-set the cost of internet bills, etc. You see these Donation buttons on everything from discussion boards to Bit Torrent trackers. Bandwidth ain't "free" like it was a couple years ago.
