my top irreplaceable anime series would be:

-Cowboy bebop ( excluding the movie!)
-Rurouni Kenshin OVA 4 episodes
-Tenchi Muyo OVA (this is my sole intro to anime more than just cartoon)

then there are those that stick with me:
-gundam wing, 0083, endless waltz
-EH OVA 1...sigh...OVA2, and Wanderers :D
-Azumanga daioh
-Love hina

As far as movies (order of emotional magnitude);
-Grave of fireflies :'(
-Jin Roh
-Metropolis
-Spirited Away
-Porco Rosso

uh, I'm sorry but I can't seem to find Lucan Duran's Saturn guide with google query or this site search...
Could you please tell me where to get it?
I won't be getting all the endings, just wanna check ones with Iffy in it :D

oh, media player won't play the movie clips from El-Hazard Sega Saturn Game thread. I've downloaded/installed the latest divx and the fraunhofer gave this when executed: "the application failer to initialized properly (xc0000005) .................."
Anyone have a  clue why is this/what's the solution?

heh, some of them are really funny...some err...I'll rate it NC-17 for CGI randomness

uh, btw Rob, do you know how  long it takes to finish the PC EH game? Do you think I can finish it in a single 3 hours flight?

thanks

well, we're straying off topic basically so:

I have to admit, I watched the 1st OVA first, got depressed from the 2nd one, and basically completely against the 3rd one, then I watched Wanderers

Sure enough, I have no idea what happen to the Ifurita I'm familiar with. I don't know what I felt, but it changed after that sincere "look" at Makoto & Rune in the snow episode.
It seemed that she initially "liked" Makoto, but nevertheless she's happy for him and Rune. That reminded me of Mutsumi character in Love Hina.
A character with charity

wanderers in dub is an example of one of the worst in dubbing...
I practically watched wanderers only from episode 12-26 (in sub), maybe I'll catched the first ones one day
the scene with Jinnai in the end is indeed heart warming :) :) :), I can't recall any other time in the series with his face looking like that; he really looked like Ifurita's caring father at that point (would be funny if in the ending Makoto got somehow close to Ifurita and has to deal with Jinnai as her father)

hey Rob, a good try on anime marathon as well as an "inflicting" anime would be cowboy bebop 26 episodes. In imdb.com there're all sort of reactions of people finishing that episode (life changing, tear bursting, etc etc). IMHO, that anime really covers life aspect which ultimately is life itself, and death.

ps: how come your sister doesn't like tv Ifurita, I thought one of anime attraction for females is
kawaii-ness???

hum, the fact that you remember somehow the detail is pretty amazing....usually I have this very nice dream (such as having Ifurita as sister..;)), but when I wake up it's as good as gone.
So how do I know I had one, well, um, there's just this good feeling and I knew I had a good dream but unable to recall it...uh, very annoying
In other time when I managed to recall it, usually the dreams stopped there and sometime I tried to "return"
like Kaorin in azumanga daioh dream episode for those who knows it

Hope you're not one to believe dreams are signs for real life occurences...better watch out for your red head friends

slightly off topic, but hey..are you MrWhat in fanfiction.net by any chance???
Well if yes, just a note from a "fan" that your  "Sad Girl(s?) In Snow" is stilll the best Ifurita containing EH fiction out there IMHO

and um, since you got vol 3 & 4 Wanderers DVD, I was thinking of getting them for a while, are they that good in terms of features, cover picture, vid quality??

uh wow,
how'd you cover all those???
Even my intern as environmental engineer doesn't cover the expense
It must be either anime is an integral part of life or your some big shot IT specialist ;)

My dvd's only cowboy bebop, so fine I need to have it.
I wanted to buy all kenshin OVA's but, oh well...priorities...priorities..

Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all, y'know?

err...umm, guess that's a relative statement, Kenshin AMV with megadeth soundtrack has a really nice coverage on that topic in the middle of the video

"Yuba's Ifurita" actually has been featured in some EH fan fiction if you care to read it.  In Ken Wolfe's "Earth" series, she has several small but important roles to play.  Give it a read and you'll see what I'm talking about.  I think she's learning to cope just fine.

hmm, I try to skim all chapters & do search with Yuba, Kalia etc, but the only thing I found was like Yuba's Ifurita might share things with Makoto Ifurita etc etc
and in the end it's like Makoto become "mecha"  as well?!?!

I basically don't really like the 2nd OAV, not only it puts another Ifurita character in sorrow, but it shows Ifurita like a mass produced thing with no single unique entity. Also the animation and detailing is poor.....oh well, nuff said
(heh hehe I guess I'm one of those silly people who can get depressed by anime; bebop & grave of fireflies etc)

Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / age
« on: April 25, 2003, 03:36:22 pm »
usually this topic is existent in every forum, I tried using search with age as keyword. No result so here we go:

I'm curious, what is the age distribution in this forum. Well then, I'll start.

My friends sometime see me as childish and imaginative due to the "anime world" I live in. I try to explain to them anime is NOT equal cartoon that's often related with comic relief, simplicity, and kids enterntainment.

I'm as good as 21 and trying to finish my research report. I'm majoring in chemical engineering.

I think, my main magnet to some animes is that they provide some sort of utopia where things seem so profound.
Ifurita's case for example, for one to remain cheerful, full of charity, and kind despite being subjected to different harsh treatment, comment, judgement, etc etc is almost non existent in real life.
also in OAV Ifurita, such sense of self sacrifice, kindness, and faithfulness are those of gold values.
I'd like to adapt such personality (easier said than done though >_<  )

you rule Rob Jinnai !!!  8)

this is the first forum I've ever been that has such option. I've been to a lot of anime  & games forum; tenchi, bebop, final fantasy etc etc and none of them ever has that option.
Whenever such problem arise, usually it only stops after tons of flaming messages among members, a lot of bitterness, and a locked topic

El-Hazard Online / Ifreeta & Rune design similarities?
« on: April 24, 2003, 11:05:56 pm »
Well, can't help but stick to this webpage for hours (geez, need to study for chemE finals... :-X )
I'm referring to page 12 & 30 of the Etrangere page
(I'd like to copy & paste the link, but dunno if that will be ok)
so what do you think, I personally believe/prefer/want....
etc etc Ifurita as a single unique entity, but looking at the 2 pics if you make the same color hair, then it would be hard to tell from a distance

um, if you see the El hazard for sega saturn on this page (which I thank the webmaster so much), under "The Eye of God, and Ishiel of the Phantom Tribe (11/17/02)", there's a page where Ifurita got hit by an explosion which seems to come from the priestesses.

but thanks to you :D :D :D, now I see the true ending and beginning to get high angst to actually play the game. You got all the screenshots from the PC version???
So Ifurita saved Makoto?!?! awwwww.....
and um, in this version he then lives with her?? I don't understand, I was under the impression the ending would be like the wanderers; Makoto goes with princess Rune. um, could you explain..please???

El-Hazard Online / ending angst
« on: April 24, 2003, 12:15:14 am »
hi I'm new, and i've had this angst for too long...
-what do you think happens in El Hazard OAV 2 ending?
Is Ifurita spending eternity in loneliness & agony? :-[ From a discussion in AIC a member mentioned that she's just cherishing her memories with Yuba forever. :-/
I personally care for the character so much that I believe Yuba basically merge into her memory/heart when he saved her. When she's in agony, she'll just have to look into her heart and he's there. They spend eternity together.
Therefore she is NOT lonely at all as shown by a little smile in the end. :)
What do you think???
*edit: adding NOT...*

-Also what happen with Ifurita in the end of the Saturn games?  :-/
The screenshots show what I perceived as horrible ending for her, but hopefully that's not true
She's such a full of "charity" and kind character in Wanderers that I always want to write a fics about her but I always end up thinking it's out of character...oh well
