After reading Mr. What's scintillating and detailed analysis of TAW, I felt compelled to posit: http://www3.mb.sympatico.ca/~kenwolfe/fanfic.htmlIf you read the Earth, Reunited and Rough Justice story arcs, you might find an enjoyable "alternative" to the disgraces to the franchise OVA2 and TAW. And, yes Saucer, Ifurita is prominently featured in all of them (as well she ought be.) --me Mark Engels

Our illustrious leader mentioned about how several of the voice actors/actresses from El Hazard were also featured in Hand Maid May.
Not suprisingly, I've noticed several others in Trigun (yet another Pioneer production.) Meryl Stryfe's VA is a dead ringer for Dorothy Melendrez (Miz) and Millie Thompson's is Lia Sargent (of course, Nanami.)
Sargent demonstrates her versatility once again. In EH, Nanami posses a sometimes forceful personality and a ready wit. In Trigun, Millie has that sweet loveable girl next door thing going for her (despite being nearly six feet tall and toting what at first blush appears to be a Vulcan cannon!) Although, comparing the two characters...let's just say Millie ain't the sharpest tool in the cabinet.
Anyone who enjoyed the comedic elements in EH would likely enjoy Trigun as well. And there is a worthwhile story slowly unfolding as my wife and I continue to watch.

Might want to consider a few simple ones to start with.
Q. How long did Ifurita claim she remained in stasis before Makoto for the "first time?"
A. 10,000 years.

My two favorite teams:
The Red Wings and whoever plays the Hurricanes.
Carolina's owner is the CEO of the computer firm I used to work for. Yeah. The one that made me fire myself after I'd laid my team off.

Michigan born and bred. Go Red Wings! Although given how close I live to Chicago I need to keep my Yzerman jersey in the closet lest I risk being mugged! Ah well, Chelios saw the light. And the money. SOMEONE from the Showalter clan will undoubtedly pledge their support to the Penguins, though. I would usually put in a plug for my alma-mater's hockey team in a discussion about hockey, though they've sucked rocks for so many seasons now I'm wondering if I'm even going to see them away at Notre Dame this year. Lake Superior State Univeristy Lakers, NCAA champs '88, '92 and '94. --me Mark Engels

Aisha Clan Clan is probably my all time favorite from this entire list. She raised narcissism to an art form, though demonstrates she can be a bad ass when the situation requires. Battia Rao from Outlanders was one of my early favorites. I've been a Manabe fan for years. Although I had always thought her features to be more similar to those of a jackal or a wolf than a cat. Must be part of why Geobaldi was so smitten with her though he'd be loathe to admit it. Nuku Nuku was a different take on the cat-girl idea, though I guess her rotary dish ears really did look like a cat's. And while we're on the topic, would Asrial from Ninja High School count? Oh, waitaminit...that's manga. Then again, one catgirl you forgot is really a catgirl. Tomoe from Usagi Yojimbo. Usagi appeared once or twice in TMNT waaaay back in the day but I'm not sure if Tomoe ever did. Omaha the Cat Dancer comes to mind, though that's getting more into the North American anthro genre (the fandom in which began for me with Erma Felna EDF from Steven A. Gallacci.) --me Mark Engels

Hmmm.
If'n it were me doing the writing for a third OAV, the first thing I would do is set it a few years ahead and have Ifurita present. I always thought Alternative World was such a cheat, having her in the opening credits but she shows up for maybe, what five seconds in the series?
Getting past the "quest for Ifurita" would resolve several situations--Makoto's made his choice (shades of Tenchi...), Nanami, Shayla and Qawoor will have to accept that and move on, and so on. Of course, you'd have to have a new quest to replace it with.
El-Hazard is a big world, yet we've seen only a fraction of it. I'd like a "road" story of sorts; Fujisawa, much as he probably loves fatherhood, is itchy to do something manly and physically demanding. Nanami might still be trying to figure out what her place in things is, seeing as Makoto is pretty much out of the picture. I think the change in group dynamics regarding the three priestesses might be a bit intense; Afura's borderline arrogance against Shayla's temper and take-charge attitude would certainly cause sparks to fly, and with Qawoor being such a wuss mouse, the third part of the equation isn't there to balance things.
Jeff... Please see my own thoughts on this matter in Reply #29. I do believe you'll enjoy reading some works from the link there, as they suit many of these same ideas to a T. --me Mark Engels Signal Technician Local 14 Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen CN Rail Valparaiso, Indiana USA

Most likely the man you want is Mark Engels, who happens in time to time. He's got like the whole of best El-Hazard fanfiction in this database of a brain. http://echoalpha.com/fanfic/ElHazard_links.htmlHenry Ford was once asked by a visitor a question about his company's financing. He simply smiled and picked up the phone to call someone from his accounting department. Within a couple minutes he had the answer and gave it to his visitor. "Shouldn't you know that yourself?" the visitor asked incredulously. Ford was said to have replied, "Son, I don't need to know these things. I only need to call whom I pay to know for me." And so it is with me. Most of what I know about EH fan fiction comes from Eric's list of links here. Ken Wolfe's "Earth" and it's spinoffs deal with the Holy Wars from mostly Ifurita's point of view. It is a fascinating read, however, as it plumbs the depths of how evil the old world's principals were toward their minions and toward each other. And being told in the third person, usually by Ifurita herself, we get an idea of just how deep the wounds of war ran through her and through the entire society. Adcock's own The Charm also introduces additional characters from the Holy Wars. An enjoyable read and historically interesting. Recommended. --me Mark Engels Signal Technician Local 14 Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen CN Rail Valparaiso, Indiana USA

How would I like to see El-Hazard continued?
My first preference is a theatrical movie that is mostly, but not not religiously, canonical, and more dramatic/less wacky than the original series. I'm thinking of the Ah! My Goddess movie as an example. And no more "tweener" stories-- I want a movie that takes place entirely after Ifurita's return.
First of all, I was thankful for your posting directing readers of the thread to my work. Thanks Eric. Second, I'd like to join welcoming dragonprincess to our forum. Please feel free to comment on all things El Hazardian or otherwise. Third, I'd like to weigh in on the OVA continuation discusion. While I'm sad to have to admit odds are indeed against another OVA being made, I am glad that a good number of El Hazard fictwriters have striven to continue the legacy. Alan Harnum's "Mortal Engines" was one of my faves until I discovered it was unfinished. Fellow list member Dooky's "The Shape of Things to Come" can be easily found at ff.net and is a humorous and scintillating read. My personal favorite, which has been called by several "what the OVA 3 screenplay ought to be like" is Ken Wolfe's "Earth" series and the "Reunited" side-story. The main theme centers around Makoto's helping Ifurita discover her humanity again after experiencing centuries of indentured servitude, war, and death. http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.htmlThese stories have the central theme of redemption and perseverance that drew me to the OVA in the first place. Another OVA continuation I co-wrote with Ken can be found at the same place. Named "Rough Justice", it's set about twenty five years after Makoto and co. first went through the looking glass. --me Mark Engels

From friend and fellow railroader Jeff Morris, who, ironically, Adcock knows from back in the day from the Dr. Who fandom. Morris' has some really decent work, especially appealing to the Tenchi fans among us. "Cherry Blossoms" was akin to an epic Roman tragedy and is not to be missed. --me Mark Engels To: el-hazard@yahoogroups.com From: "Jeff Morris" <jeffreysmorris@aol.com> Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 22:18:26 -0000 Subject: [el-hazard] New El-Hazard fanfic tale Hopefully, given Yahoo Groups' current woes, this will get out... I just posted a story on my site called "Something Happened". An unexpected incident between two priestesses puts a strain on their friendship. Warning--adult themes implied. http://members.aol.com/jeffreysmorris gets you to the main page, and the story link is there. Hope you enjoy. JSM

I want to see a new demon god... probably better than Ifurita and kalia combined --> a male of course ; a damn good-lookin one..
|D
Ragnarok Addict, Tsuzuki Asato and Aya mentioned a lot about Ifurita and her fellow demon gods. Folks like Saucer, Adcock and I are very much Ifurita fans. For those of you who might be interested in a story depicting Ifurita's past and how it affected her relationship with Makoto, I submit Ken Wolfe's feature length epic for your consideration: http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.htmlIn fact, in the end of Ken's "Earth" series, a new male demon god is introduced. And the price getting there is worth the price of admission. --me Mark Engels

Rob and Eric...
ROTFLMAO. Thanks fellas. That made my month.
Glad to see you back with us, Kat.
And here I thought I had cut the fat hog in the ass having a company van to drive around to my trouble calls on the railroad signal system. Of course, they also expect me to drive da buggy into the swamps at night to find out why the dispatchers are seeing track lights lit on their panels...
Rob's been in touch with a railroad friend of mine who happens to be Pittsburgh's newest anime buff. Maybe the Showalter family could enlighten Homer and I whether there any regular anime showings or cons out your way?

I've listened to a lot of music and i found a song that can fit to Ifurita's character and story... Its from Evanescence and it is entitled "Bring Me to Life"
This song describes Ifurita's life before she met Makoto and how she hungers to be with him when she knew that Makoto is the key to her freedom...
I had started listening to this song on the radio at just about the same time as Shayla's Raven mentioned it here in another thread. I ended up buying Evanescence's CD, which I highly recommend. The entire album rocks, though BMTL is still my favorite. For those of you who fondly remember when Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime album came out, the guitar riffs on the song "Tourniquet" are strangly reminiscent of former Rycher Chris DeGarmo's style. There is also a BMTL music video produced by a creator named Zeon on the Anime Music Videos site ( www.amv.org). I subscribed mostly because of this video. To my mind the timing is a little off in places although I feel it captures much of the drama and longing between Makoto and Ifurita BMTL embodies. Another suprisingly good El Hazard video I've enjoyed can be found at the Sandrock Productions web site. In just about a completely different musical genre, Sandrock's "And You Look At Me" video (set to the Celene Dion song of the same name) still chokes me up whenever I look at it. --me Mark Engels

We need some more humans on Bugrom side. (Didn't someone suggest that once? Human spies for the Bugrom hiding along the river's edge or something? Was that the RPG book?) That probably makes for some very interesting story material, but I digress.
Funny you should mention that. This idea plays a significant role in our work, "Rough Justice." http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/my_fanfic/Rough.txtShameless plug I know, but I believe the membership here will find the story satisfying. And, insofar as the above passage is concerned, our story is pertinent to the topic at hand. Ken's solo work in the El Hazard universe is also highly worthwhile material. And readers of good fiction will find his Moonie-verse stuff appealing, I think. http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html--me Mark Engels

Brief OT-ness: And here I drew the parallel with Maison Ikkoku. I am 0LD SK00L.
Probably the best manga Takahashi ever did. I've got them all and love the series. And that was the first thing that came to mind when I read Saucer's references to a "ronin", although Usagi Yojimbo was a close second. --me Mark Engels
