El-Hazard Online / Re: ending angst

hi I'm new, and i've had this angst for too long...
-what do you think happens in El Hazard OAV 2 ending?
Is Ifurita spending eternity in loneliness & agony? :-[ From a discussion in AIC a member mentioned that she's just cherishing her memories with Yuba forever. :-/
I personally care for the character so much that I believe Yuba basically merge into her memory/heart when he saved her. Therefore she is lonely at all as shown by a little smile in the end. :)
What do you think???

http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html

"Yuba's Ifurita" actually has been featured in some EH fan fiction if you care to read it.  In Ken Wolfe's "Earth" series, she has several small but important roles to play.  Give it a read and you'll see what I'm talking about.  I think she's learning to cope just fine.

The inevitable question being asked about how one would keep the two of them straight is answered in hysterical fashion.  ;)

http://www.csus.edu/indiv/s/seifertv/toth/other.htm

Another story that deals with just what Ifuritas must endure after their dearly beloveds have shuffled off this mortal coil is Vincent Seifert's excellent "The Tale of the Jinniyah and the King."  While this pertains to an Ifurita other than Yuba's, I suspect she may well have had a similar experience.

El-Hazard Online / Re: *Spoilers for EH2* Kalia...

Kalia was DEFINATELY evil. She was just damn scary. I KNEW there was NO reasoning with her after she made that God awful face at dinner rigtht after she hit Miz... O_O; Very Dilandu in nature (for those of you who have seen any of Escaflowne you know what I mean) Talk about scary shit... That was it for me...

She was really hate filled and I agree with what Neil said... so I won't repeat it.

Yes I would agree Dilandau had issues.  Believe it or not I found myself feeling sorry for Nakago from Fushigi Yugi before he got what was coming him.

But with respect to Kalia, what I find interesting is just how she might have become the way she was.  While I respect the opinion of the previous poster who offered that Demon-Gods/Triggers of Destruction are not "born" but "made," I find the notion of the DGs and ToD being cyborgs to be more interesting from a character development (devolvement?) perspective.

To wit, a Kalia fict I really enjoyed was written by my friend Ken Wolfe.  Link below for those interested in reading it.  Worth your time, definitely.  Offers Yon Maddlesome Reader a chance to see that Kalia's becoming so warped took time.  And pain.  Lots of pain.

Look for "Prime Candidate" in the El Hazard section at:

http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html

Good angsty stuff, I thought.  Enjoy friends.

hehe what i meant when i said they never really reunited, sorry that came out wrong yea they did reunite in the first ova and i went to look back at it again, and he is a lot older when he returns to ifurita.  But what i was talking about was how he got to that point...i figured the ova2 and the alternative world would cover that, but now i realize those were more of what happened while he was in el hazard(sidequest as rob jinnai said), before he returned home to ifurita...

For your consideration:

http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html

Sure it's not the "canon" but the Earth series and Reunited side story are a very well-rendered account of what might have happened.  As my friend Mr. What has said, the two are requisite EH reading.  Enjoy, but I'll warn you--they're addicting.  And LONG.  Very long.  :)

Roger on the Ifurita fave.  ;)

As I recall the character from Mononoke Hime you're referring to was Lady Eboshi.  But it's been awhile...one of the few anime I've ever seen on the silver screen...

Do you mean as having more Phantom people directly, like Galus, disguising themselves as other people and taking positions in particular divisions?  Essentially ones trained to create political issues towards the favor of wreaking havoc on their bonds.

Author Ken Wolfe explored a very interesting variant of this idea in his "El Hazard: Earth" series.  Any of you who've read about The Silent Invasion will know what I'm talking about.  For those that might not, the entire Earth series is really worth a read.  I noticed rave reviews of the series from both ff.net and our own Mr. Adcock.

El-Hazard Online / EH Cosplay Pics
« on: February 28, 2003, 10:35:32 am »
First of all, kudos to Kathy for the very well done Ifurita costume.  Thank you for posting the pict.  And thank you to Rob for digging that Wanderers one up out of Neil's archives.  Yes, Miz did look quite convincing.  But the Fujisawa looked charmingly hung over and the Alielle looked very convincing too.

No doubt there are more than these drifting around out there.  These will get us started though.

For the OVA Ifurita fans...

http://www.fansview.com/person/0415pers.htm

And for the Nanami worshipers...

http://www.fansview.com/person/0625pers.htm

Notice that this Nanami is also wearing glasses in costume, which I think makes the costume look even better.

If you look around on A Fan's View Personality of the Week home page, you'll also find intereviews of a goodly number of voice actors, including Nanami's Lia Sargent.

http://www.fansview.com/person.htm

And a number of you who enjoy fanfict will no doubt recognize some of the several dozen fictwriters interviewed there too.

And here I thought I was the only Manabe fan left.  :)

I started collecting Outlanders in 1989 and picked up Caravan Kidd and Drakuun when they started coming out.  Here's hoping Drakuun starts being distributed again.  A fine combination of silly slapstick and satisfying character and relationship development I think.  You can send me a message using this forum if you'd like to discuss CK offline larewen.

El-Hazard Online / EH Music Videos available online...
« on: February 12, 2003, 10:19:18 pm »
Went trolling around on the EH Yahoo! group and got this response back from my man in Hawaii.

In addition to the one by Sarah Brightman, there is also one set to the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour (which ironically I think I actually have on vinyl...)

The EVA one set to Europe's Final Countdown was the very first AMV I ever saw at Anime Central '98.  It just blew me away, though I begrudgingly admit I was a senior in high school when that song first came out.

Enjoy friends.

El-Hazard Online / Re: Song difference
« on: February 05, 2003, 10:30:42 pm »
Usually when I hear "Once In a Lifetime" mentioned in an El-Hazardian context, it is in reference to a fine music video produced several years ago by a fellow named Michael Ko.  The song itself is by Sarah Brightman.  It's a wonderful video I enjoyed a lot.  I'll warn you all it's particularly suited to the mushy WAFFY Makoto & Iffy fans out there (like yours truly.)

I KNOW it's available out there on the web someplace but for the life of me I can't seem to find it.  All of the links I'd bookmarked 404'd on me as I went to look for it just now.  I'm on the road right now though I THINK I've got it someplace on my home machine.  I'd be happy to take a look when I get there.  But in the meantime maybe our gracious admins know where we might find it?  Some of the Yahoo! group folks might know too...

Yahoo Groups aren't exactly my favorite method of communication (okay, I abstain from them entirely ;p), they're concidered rather passé to a lot of us.  *shrug*

I can appreciate that indeed.   I did think the 72 members here might enjoy meeting some of the 169 members over on the Yahoo! Group.  Several of them are very talented EH fictwriters, including several who have already posted work to fanfiction.net.

Wolfe's work is one of my favorites, but I'm also a fan of a series called "The Shape of Things To Come."  It just wrapped up today, in fact.  Check out ff.net for details.

How did you find El-Hazard online?:

I was surfing at Jason Bertovich's excellent El Hazard site (http://www.geocities.com/MakotosMWO/) and followed the link here.  I'm glad to see there are still El Hazard fans around!  If you care to meet some others, please visit EH Yahoo! group at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/el-hazard/

Misc:

Married to a lovely woman who has come to enjoy anime with me.  Live with two 90 lb. dogs out in the flatlands of Indiana (just where a a boy from a small farming town in Michigan likes it.)  While I have been an anime fan for many years (as you can see from my age!) I have been a train buff longer.  After completing my electrical engineering coursework at a school in Michigan back in 1993, I worked doing wiring and programming for welding robots in auto plants.  I rode the high-tech wave in Minneapolis as a test systems designer for medical devices and avionics systems for last seven years until it all came crashing down this year.  After having worked part-time as a semi driver, backhoe operator, freight train conductor, and locomotive mechanic, I decided to work for the railroad full time.  I now work for CSX Transportation on a signal construction gang covering territory between Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky.  We're the guys out putting up those gates and flashers up along the highway in the middle of winter.  Needless to say I've become familiar with Carhartts after doing office work for so long.  Brrr!

I have almost completed a monster El Hazard fanfic with the help of my good friend and fellow fictwriter Ken Wolfe.  It's my first El Hazard work, but he has been quite proliferate over the years.  I highly suggest you give his work a once-over, especially if you believe (like me) the growing relationship betweem Makoto and Ifurita being central to the appeal of the series.
You can read Ken's previous EH work here...

http://www.mts.net/~kenwolfe/fanfic.html

Nice to meet you all and hope you enjoy the work.
