Non-El-Hazard Topical Discussions / Re: Hello from 2014

Wow, I stumbled upon the old forum after searching for some old fanfics, and it's good to see some posts still recently added.

I haven't been around regularly for nearly 10 years other than a brief stopover 7 years ago, what's new with all of you?

I hit my 30s, though I still keep up with the anime scene. I started writing fanfiction in my spare time again, with better results thanks to some confidence. Work has got me procrastinating on it though.

I had to re-register since my account (and the new one after it) got nuked when the website had permission issues ages ago.

Nowadays I tend to hang around SteamGifts and work on random website projects of my own. I also run some game servers in my spare time. Been so long since I've browsed the old threads. I miss the RPG, I wish it could have kept going. Loads of fun were had there.

I hope that Bluray set hits this side of the Pacific through a distributor.

Feel free to message me as I added my email to the profile.

Hey there!  Glad to meet another fan!  About those Blu-rays...they are gorgeous! (started a new topic here on the board with some info).

While I'm at it folks, a bit of shameful promotion here, but since it'd be appreciated by such folks around here I'd like to share a recent episode of a little podcast my friends and I are involved with: giving some love for El-Hazard!

Here's youtube link, got links for podcast and more there.

As initially mentioned here, I felt compelled to do a follow-up after actually getting my hands on the recent release of EH on BD!

(Hope no one minds I made a new topic for any other news/follow-up's concerning this release; also hope no one's too jelly muahahaaa!)

As can be seen via previous link or a quick internet search, you can see a few screenshots to gaze at the quality for yourself. I can tell you from first-hand experience, it's immaculate. So here's just a few pics I snapped of the actual set itself:

The six episodes are spread out generously on two Blu-ray discs (because we all know a single BD could hold all of EH and then some) and four CDs are included as well. To date I've not yet explored these CDs (OST, I presume), as I am currently in a transition phase, complete with various prized possessions somewhat inaccessible at the moment.

In summary, I can't remember at the moment exactly how much I dropped for this set (mostly because I'd rather not remember!) but for me it was money well spent. El-Hazard is a gem, and it's only appropriate that a rare Blu-ray release of an otherwise OOP work joins my humble collection.

tl;dr If ever you have the opportunity to do so, BUY IT! It's got the English dub and everything!

BTW, if anyone is so inclined, I first posted about this acquisition on my forum home for the past few years Tenchiforum.com. I'd like this place (EHO) to be an outlet for whenever I have that EH itch to scratch, but if most folks have moved on or would like to discuss another one of Hayashi's works, check us out! We TM! folk love our 'sister series.'  ^_^V

Even if it's just a trickle, it's great to see some replies from the old guard!

BTW I'm a tad late on this, but remember talk of a certain several-times-delayed blu ray set?

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00FZKLL2G/ref=pe_492632_159100282_TE_item

Also btw, they are going (more like "went" by the time anyone sees this) FAST!

If out of stock, some amazon-user vendors might be looking to make a profit on the turnaround, so don't lose faith too soon!

If I manage to get my hands on a set, I'll let you all know if the bang is worth the buck (which, I mean, come on....).  ;D

Well well well, it looks like the goddesses have heard my call. Blu-Ray set is back on track for release July 30th.

Hah, this is the spark of life El-Hazard is needing. ;D  However, let's see the price and if it gets released elsewhere.

Yes!  Spread the word to the faithful!

El-Hazard fans, assemble!!!

El-Hazard Online / Re: Who's your fave El Hazard Character?
« on: March 31, 2014, 03:56:13 pm »
More than most series, this is a really, really tough question, as I love literally all of the characters for different reasons.

But as I'm watching the first OVA, when I hear this line

Fujisawa: Oh no! Someone else has run out of alcohol too.

it was cemented in my mind right then and there: I'm a Fujisawa fan.

It might sound tacky, but I legitimately find his character inspiring. He clearly has more than a bit of a dependence on alcohol, so the way he's presented as having a honest to goodness superpower when he refrains from booze is the show screaming at anyone in a similar situation "look at how much potential you have!"

Fujisawa's an old dog, but even he learns something new about himself on his trip to a faraway world. Despite his hilarious admission "I'm weak!" when we're introduced to him in school, on El-Hazard he begins to learn that sort of thinking is just a mind set. It's a lesson for anyone, be it alcohol or anything else: when we master our own habits, our potential skyrockets, and if you're a slave to a non-productive or undesirable behavior, with the support of others (thank you Miz) and the right mind set you can master it, it's just up to you to choose whether you do or don't.

El-Hazard Online / Re: How you got into El-Hazard

If I may resurrect this here thread, I don't know if I would have ever heard of EH let alone watched it if not for Tenchi Muyo.  I wasn't into anime in general until I happened to see Tenchi on TV stateside (whoever was in charge of marketing anime in the U.S. in the late 90's - early 00's was a godsend) and many years later, after exploring Hayashi's other works and at the recommendation of others I took the plunge and all I can say is I wish I had sooner!

Welcome both! It's always nice to see posts around here.  :)

Yeah, you can probably say this is a lost civilization, in a way, hoping to come back to life somehow.

Thanks for the welcome! Glad to see when I knocked, someone was home.  Dunno if it'll be anything like your glory days, but maybe some new life will indeed be breathed into this place in 2014.

And hello what's this? Did I bring about another lurker? Sup (if you're actually Mr. Bowie using an alias, I won't tell).  ;)

edit: I guessed as much, but now I've figured out I've introduced at least one friend here by way of Tenchi!

After 10,000 minutes of searching, I've finally found you all!  Fellow El-Hazard fans!  :)

It seems I have stumbled upon the remains of a once-great society.  Is this a lost civilization?  Or has my journey only just now begun?  If there is anyone left here to read this, congratulations for having maintained a fan forum for so long, this series isn't "old" it's aged like a fine wine, and by gum young folk as well as the "aged"  ;) should know about it.

I've long known of El-Hazard via its creative connections with Tenchi Muyo! OVA, but as you all know life happens, and EH went from being on my list, to being set on the back burner, to being almost forgotten entirely...

...BUT as fortune would have it, thanks to the internet I have re-discovered the series and, now having the time to finally do so, I took the plunge into the first OVA: it was love at first viewing.  So where's that leave me?  Obviously scheduling time to experience the rest of The Magnificent World and heck even the TV series, all while hopefully sharing my love for this series with like-minded individuals.

Anyway here's to EHO! *takes a Fujisawa-sized swig
