Title: age
Post by: washuchan on April 25, 2003, 03:36:22 pm
usually this topic is existent in every forum, I tried using search with age as keyword. No result so here we go:

I'm curious, what is the age distribution in this forum. Well then, I'll start.

My friends sometime see me as childish and imaginative due to the "anime world" I live in. I try to explain to them anime is NOT equal cartoon that's often related with comic relief, simplicity, and kids enterntainment.

I'm as good as 21 and trying to finish my research report. I'm majoring in chemical engineering.

I think, my main magnet to some animes is that they provide some sort of utopia where things seem so profound.
Ifurita's case for example, for one to remain cheerful, full of charity, and kind despite being subjected to different harsh treatment, comment, judgement, etc etc is almost non existent in real life.
also in OAV Ifurita, such sense of self sacrifice, kindness, and faithfulness are those of gold values.
I'd like to adapt such personality (easier said than done though >_<  )

There is truth in that.  I've come to like El-Hazard in particular for reasons sort of in the same zone.   Mostly because when I first got into it, my entire life was rather in ruins and I didn't feel much like living in this world anymore... then through the glory of some silly music video, it made me shell out for the El-Hazard OAV.  I had known nothing about it before that moment, not one thing, except that the "Jinnai" of "Jinnai and the Bugrom - Live!" was appealing somehow.

(This following applies more to the OAV than the Wanderers.)  El-Hazard mainly caught on to me via the story of having a life treading towards aboslute chaos (Makoto was about to be killed by Jinnai, who was about to be evicted from his power position.  Fujisawa could've been fired upon catching him publicly drunk.  Etc.)
And then suddenly these lives are thrown into another world where the previous life didn't matter, and then through personal developments and talents, they ultimately become heroes.

Oddly enough, I sometimes feel like I keep on living strictly so that I may live to actually get to this "other world", where suddenly I do matter for what's good about me.  As opposed to my current status that mostly uses me only for my low-levels.  (I.E.  Physical work and such.)
Granted college is finally pulling me from these depths, giving me a friend, a college professor who's interested in me and almost seems to sap optimism off my performance, etc.  But still, El-Hazard remains something I cling to to give me hope.

Oh, and to answer the original question, I'll be 20 this May 20th.  "20 May 20" is the big event for me this year.  :P

And for the record, most who've come through here are usually ranged 20 or higher, oldest I think is about 31!  However, keep in mind that El-Hazard was out in 1995, so most any college student who clung to it back then would be about that old now.

I'll be 28 in September! ::cries::

Anime also helped me through some dark times. I was already into it beforehand. But when my world was crumbling, it helped me keep my head above water. It was all I had to turn to. Anime represents so much for me: entertainment, escapism, education, cultural enrichment and so much more.

Of course... it doesn't work well in the other direction either. About 4 days ago this one lady told me I looked like I was 12 O_O;

I'm 22 O_O; and... I REALLY don't think I look THAT young... 15-16 is the LOWEST I'd go. And I was even wearing my hair back which makes me look older O_O;

Now... my old roommate ^_^ she IS very small in stature and people REALLY DO think she's 12... she's 20. ^_^; I think is really does bother her when people tell her she looks like she's 12... she gets it a lot...

When that lady told me I looked like I was 12 I thought... "My God, if you saw my old roommate, you'd think she was 6 then!"

Oh well... :p

Well, when I was six, this guy said he thought I was eight. When I was eight, the same guy said he thought I was ten. When I was ten, he said that he thought I was twelve. I haven't gone near that shop since.  ;)

I get loads of people thinking I'm older than I look.

Like when I was in Primary 5, everyone kept askingme what year I was in. Then when I told them I was in P5, they got a huge shock. Even my aunt used to ask me that.  :P

People are always wondering my age;  I tell them I'm in HS, they think I'm a Sophomore, then they guess Junior for safety, and then they guess Freshman correctly, because I'm not dazed out enough to be a senior at Jyyyyeffferson.

That wouldn't happen to be Jefferson HS of West Virginia, would it? Cuz I go to Musselman (and if you are form the aforementioned Jefferson, you'll know what I'm talking about.  ;) ) All I'm saying is, if we do live so close by to each other, why the hell haven't we met yet?!?

Oh yes, and to stay on topic for a change, I'm turning 18 on September 5, upon which I'm moving out of my parents house quickly and without a moment's hesitation.  ;D I'll live with my college friend in Denver (actually, he's now in Wyoming State University or something, but his family likes me ) And soon after, I plan to meet a wealthy bachelor and suck him for every penny he's worth, while I run off to Scotland and jump around with Lar ( I don't know what kind of pastimes they have in Scotland, but jumping around seems safe) And live happily ever after in my control-freak-free home.  ;D That's plan A. There is no Plan B as of yet, but I'm hard at work on it. Keep ya all posted !  ;D

Jumping around....specifically what kind of jumping around?  ;)

We don't have any pastimes...*Lar shakes slightly as the knife at her throat comes closer.*
"Say what I want you to say, and no harm will come to you!"
*Lar hits away scary man with knife, and starts talking of her own accord*

Well, pastimes....we stick to school, because we have no choice. We go on the net, watch TV, talk, talk, talk, talk through important subjects at school like Science and English, talking through maths would be dangerous.
In fact, if you came here, make friends ASAP, because without them you're lost.

Well, Lar lied.

We run about the hills, in loin cloths scaring tourists and counting bluebells.  ;)  :P

No, not really, we go hunting wild haggis.

Haggis, or haggi (plural) are small creatures, with two legs, one shorter than the other so they can run around the side of hills.

They are endangered now, so they are only caught and eaten during special times, Burns Day being the most famous.

For some strange reason, beyond me, some tend to think that Haggi are a type of bird...

I worry.  ;)

No Stix, what they failed to tell you is that they really are wearing skirts.

The men of Scotland are too "manly" to admit that they wear skirts.

Therefore:

"It's not a dress! It's a kilt!"

Well, this topic has been silent a week, but I figured I might as well post here anyway.

I'm 27, but I won't be for much longer. My birthday's on the 21st of June. The longest birthday of the year! ^_^V

As Rob pointed out towards the start of this topic, I got into El-Hazard in college, though it was already a few years old by then.

To this day, I still can't really figure out what drew me to it... the cover art was not particularly inspiring (anyone who wants to see what the VHS covers looked like back then, I'll be scanning and donating them to Rob, hopefully by next week ^_^), and the blurb describing it made it sound pretty generic ("High school students are transported to another dimension... gain strange new powers... save the day..." Gee, where have we heard that before?). Still, I picked up the first volume of OAV1, and was instantly hooked!

Actually, I'm kinda curious - how did all of you get interested in El-Hazard? Wait - don't answer here. I'll go make a topic for it in the "El-Hazard Online" forum. ^_^

Slightly older than me, eh?  I personally wouldn't mind becoming 21... then I'm fully legalized to do everything.  And I swear my life sometimes gives me the desire to drink, though I can't legally fulfill that.  (No, that's not a good idea, but you'd like to think you could instead of being told you can't.)

Anyway, this next May 20th, I will finally be free of any legalities regarding age (good ol' 21), and that'll be fine with me.

I dunno if I want to get any older after that though.  ;)  I already feel pretty old and that's not helping.

I'm a bit hyper for my age and I get mistaken for anywhere from 16-18 and even had a half an hour argument with some 15 year old because he just would not believe me when I told him I was 22. I showed him my id and he was all staring at it saying, "that's not you" *shrugs* ah well, I really don't mind, it will help out when I get older and if I am single to hook me a younger guy. It's interesting how many members posted here that aren't around any longer. Wonder what happened; I highly doubt EHOL would've had a bad string of forum melodrama that always seems to hit the other forums I attend, especially since the average member age is older than most.

But still, El-Hazard remains something I cling to to give me hope.

Ah, so I am not the only one. ;)

The single thing I love the most in El-Hazard first OAV is that, in the very end, it is not about saving the world. It is about a boy who loves his girl so much, he won't stop at nothing until he can get back to her. He doesn't care about what others think; it makes no difference to him whether she's even human. He will face the biggest odds... and win. The sheer power of his feeling will keep him going, "even across the breath of a thousand million nights", to the day they will meet again.

I am, I have been since the earliest I remember, one of those few who believe in love, and treasure it as life's single most important thing. It was a somewhat unconscious understanding, however, until I got to the end of El-Hazard. It was like waking up, remembering a truth long forgotten... suddenly I knew what was worth striving for.

It is no coincidence that just now, when I still strive to get over the end of my 5-year long relationship with a girl I had every intention of marrying, I turn back to the Eternal Homeland. I look back at that boy's faith in his feelings, I see how wonderful is the completeness he and his girl found in each other... and it comforts me a great deal. I do not demand something that perfect; I just want my own little share of love, imperfect as it may be, but special in its own way. Like the star pendant I wear, which remembers me of that other little star -- the star of Hope, always sparkling in my chest, lighting my way through yet another night.

By the way, I just turned 25 today. From 1979.10.14 to 2004.10.14 and counting on. :P

Happy Birthday Helio! *smiles*

I admire what you said. I just recently got out of a very rocky relationship with a guy who saw me as nothing more than an object at home he could toy with when he felt like it. every other time he ignored me and played online. I admire too what determination Makoto has for Ifurita. its a truly beautiful thing. I kinda always end up in relationships where the guy treats me like dirt. and I think at first things will get better. and I stay all hopeful and stuff. which is kinda pathetic. I'll be like one of those really cheerful people who sit there and say, "things will be better, tomorrow's a new day!" and then tomorrow comes and things are still bad and still she smiles and says, "things will be better, tomorrow's a new day!" I guess because I think that its just a phase and they will wake up and realize they need to treat me better but then I see after a long time that they won't and I decide finally to get out of that situation. *shrugs* I don't really know what it is. but life goes on. and I am so happy I am now a part of this forum. its awesome and I love posting to all of you guys! ^^  and now I am way off topic. lol. sorry! gomen gomen! *bops own head with keystaff lightly* I shall go scrub floors now! *runs off with a bottle of mop and glo to start work on the corridors of the hive* wheeee

Sorry to push the thread further off-topic, but I couldn't help it. :P

btw, if anyone wants to im me on aim, feel free to! I love random im windows popping up and people telling me hi. except for ones that just pop up and say, "a/s/l" that bugs me. ~_~

god this year is going by so fast, soon, my birthday will be right back and I'll be nearly halfway to thirty. well, I guess I don't mind as long as I am healthy and happy, that's all that matters anymore. ^^

I like poker, it truly is a game of chance. which reminds me *back on topic* when I was 10, my friend that lived next door had this huge craps table in his living room so I would come over with my brother in tow and we would play on it, poker, craps, black jack, etc. and we would even have the candy cigarettes. lol. ah those were the days. that is the only way you'd ever catch a cigarette in this girl's mouth. if it was made of sugar. hehe
