Title: New El-Hazard DVDs from Geneon
Post by: Icy EyeG on May 02, 2007, 06:26:24 pm
I saw this via Animenation.com (http://www.animenation.com/dvd-anime-dvd--e---g--el-hazard.html)
Apparently Geneon (http://www.geneonanimation.com) is selling (quite! ;D ) cheaper Region 1 NTSC DVDs of the OVAs.
This is good news for those people that didn't get (or afford  ^^; ) the OVA special edition box.
For what I can tell OVA1 comes in 2 volumes and OVA2 in one volume (just like the OVA special edition box). However it seems that they are sold separately only (they may release a bundle...?).

The Geneon's official page for the 1st vol. of OVA1 (http://geneonanimation.com/MainContentPage.aspx?PageUID=e4f7842c-b100-4a9a-8ea8-e91dfc6e5c63&CatUID=7e51ecae-1202-4cf7-bba0-0c37b9953f93&Letter=E&ctl_BrowseGridpg=0&hdn_ProdID=2270aea3-da62-4f82-98af-ae7c68bb1723&Title=307c8944-da0e-4266-ba84-c2649815ff5e&TitleType=bc3bba18-208c-4534-9697-f3719fd13683) doesn't describe any special features..., apart from the 5.1 Japanese audio.  :-/

[EDIT]:
Geneon's official page for the 2nd vol. of OVA1 (http://geneonanimation.com/MainContentPage.aspx?PageUID=e4f7842c-b100-4a9a-8ea8-e91dfc6e5c63&CatUID=7e51ecae-1202-4cf7-bba0-0c37b9953f93&Letter=E&ctl_BrowseGridpg=0&hdn_ProdID=375687fd-18c2-4f5d-9a51-bd8ba363cbdd&Title=307c8944-da0e-4266-ba84-c2649815ff5e&TitleType=bc3bba18-208c-4534-9697-f3719fd13683) says that this DVD will have the following extra features:
Quote
  • Line Art
  • Non-Credit Opening & Ending
  • DVD Credits

It's not much, but... better than nothing  -_-
[/EDIT]

I didn't find a picture of the OVA2 DVD, but here are the others:

As you can see, no big difference on the covers (same usual Hanken Cels used in a different disposition).
However I'd like to see if the OVA2 cover surprises me, like the one found by Nepotism Chainsaw (http://www.el-hazardonline.net/cgi-bin/eholpage.cgi?series=El-Hazard;menu=ehoav2;content=mworld2/packaging.html)  ;) (there aren't many Hanken Cels from OVA2 around).

 |D Oh yeah. I was ready to break out the champagne (if I had any) when I saw it on Amazon, and now I'm counting down the days till it gets here. I actually haven't seen it in years. Someone absconded with my VHS copies a long time ago, and that absurdly priced box set was never in the budget. I'm planning an all-day El Hazard party when the second volume comes out!

It is nice to see that we might actually have affordable El-Hazard.  Maybe there will be a resurgence...?  Nah, not likely.  :P

A small update. Animenation is selling the OVA 2 DVD (http://www.animenation.com/13016.html), but they don't have a pic of it nor many details:
Quote
  • Spoken Languages: English, Japanese
  • Subtitle Languages: English
  • Rating: 13+
  • Run Time: 120 Minutes
  • Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (Fullscreen)
  • Region: 1 / NTSC
  • Publisher: Geneon

Funny enough, if you go to their El-Hazard DVDs page (http://www.animenation.com/dvd-anime-dvd--e---g--el-hazard.html), they are not selling the OVA1 vol. 1, i.e. they have only the OVA1 vol. 2 and OVA2 DVDs (and Geneon hasn't announced the OVA2 DVD yet).  ;D
Forget what I said above.  ^^; On the OVA 2 DVD Page (http://www.animenation.com/13016.html) says:
Quote
Currently available for pre-order.
Release Date: September 25, 2007

At least we now know a release date.   :P

After owning the OVAs on VHS for god knows how long, I finally bought the first OVA discs this week.
As far as I can tell, it has the same easter eggs as those reported in the original box set release. Maybe they are the same discs?

Oh and BTW, I'm Shayla's Raven. Forgot my old password  ^^; (Sorry Rob. eheh)

So even the menus are the same? Do you have all 3 disks already?
If you have the OVA2 dvd, could you post the cover?  :P

The cover seems... to have a pretty standard design.... and NO new Hanken Cels!!  :bawl
