Title: Revolutionary Girl Utena
Post by: Lord God Jinnai on August 06, 2004, 03:14:24 am
Well, I just finished watching the entire Revolutionary Girl Utena series, and I just gotta say... I am now officially more f'd up in the head than I originally was. Seriously, that show is freaky. But still, it is immensely original and wonderfully put together. The animation was consistently excellent during the entire show, as was the story and music. Although this series isn't for everyone, I must say that I definately enjoyed it.

Now then, I'm off to seduce my sister, kill some cats, free my secret beloved lesbian fencer from an unhealthy relationship, pose for beefcake shots with the creepy headmaster, then turn into a car and ride off into further esoteric adventures.

Absolute Destiny Apocalypse indeed.

*slaps Ifurita around, then orders her to water the roses*

Utena is much better with a side of Thumbnail Theater (http://www.isako.org/thumb/ttindex.htm). :D

I never took to the series myself... too long to get into, and really, really bizarre at points. Plus there's the minor fact that I'm a conservative religious guy and Utena's got... stuff. *chuckles* It does get points for the art and animation, though.

I enjoyed Utena and it's weirdness... And I enjoyed Touga way more than I should have ... Normally people like him piss me off... but damn he's smooth... I shame myself falling into his evil, womanizing, slutty, bishonen trap -_-

I only got to see about half of Utena, but I'll tell you I'm hooked on good ol' Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku.  I don't know why, I just love that song.  :P

.hack//sign - Obsession strings ver. is the best song out there.. for me... That comes from an anime...

Everything is videogame music I extracted.. Like.. CnC Generals Zero Hour... or...

Unreal Tournament 2004 or....

Planetside... and...

Star Wars Galaxies (don't ask, I can not tell)

Half-Life...

Final Fantasy 7

Metroid Prime

Metroid Fusion!

Halo

CnC Renegades

Front Mission

Front Mission 2: Gun Hazard...

I even got ahold of an import of Star Ocean: Till the end of time.. I have a hard time working with.. whatever the heck the encryption/assembly it is.. Infact I never got to extract one bit of it, so I gave it to someone else, he got one song out of it, after that the CD exploded....

By far though, I still think obsession strings version is the best anime song out there!

I watched one episode of Utena.... All I had to say is...... well..

Me: "What the FUCK is this?"

Zach (my friend): "What the hell are you looking at?"

Me: "Something really screwed up."

Zach: "Like what?"

Me: "I dunno, the developers musta been on lethal dosages of almost every drug out there to make up something this fucked up"

Parents heard..

Mom: "Don't fucking swear!"

.........

Yea... I like ranting...

It might also be the fact that they play it EVERY single episode. It's like some evil radio commercial jingle. Hear it enough times and you can never get it out of your head.

I bet Utena was really pissed when she found out that the dueling arena had an elevator. She could've saved herself a lot of time climbing all those stairs!

A little overly-dramatic, industrial goodness never hurt anyone! ^_^ ::spins Laibach records all night long::

The whole soundtrack is excellent, J.R. Sleazar is a genius. He(?) did music for Takazaruka theater for years, so it's totally appropriate for Utena. I love the operatic metal backed by completely loopy lyrics that have nothing to do with anything.

Utena was quite an enjoyable anime, I liked the movie too (though it was completely off the hook). The manga left a bit to be desired, I felt.  Just didn't have the same impact as the anime.

Did you know that Utena was based on an unused idea for a Sailor Moon movie? The SuperS movie was originally going to be a slightly trippy love story between Uranus and Neptune, but one of the writers quit and Ikuhara decided it would be rude to use the story in his absence. Which is a shame, I'd have loved to see a movie about Uranus and Neptune. Still, it did mean that we got Utena a few years later.

That's interesting Dooky, I didn't know that! I know Ikuhara was the director of Sailor Moon. The guy is pretty nutty but he does some great work! ^^;

did you know that if you play Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku backwards, you can hear evil chanting and the falling apart of the world?

lol, sorry, just playing around. I like the song too. I like alot of utena music including the song from the movie "Toki Ni Ai Wa" that was just a beautiful song and beautiful scene dancing on a floor of floating roses *smiles warmly*

Actually, that probably goes down as both one of the most memorable and most well animated moments in anime history.

I concur. That was one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen in any movie. It was truly a work of art.
