As some of you know, I'm on the planning staff for Anime Detour, the first anime convention in Minnesota. (Yes, Minnesota. Stop looking at me like that. -_-)
Anyhow, I'm helping out with Video Programming, and we're trying to decide on what shows we're gonna show during the 'con. We're trying to figure out a good mix of shows, both old and new, some subbed, some dubbed, some that appeal more to guys, some that appeal more to gals, some that appeal more to older con-goer, some that appeal to young, and so on.
What I'd like to know is this: What would you like to see if you went to a convention? What do you think that other people would enjoy seeing? Naturally, I'll be pushing for El-Hazard to be included in the lineup, but that still leaves plenty of time for other stuff.
Naturally, it all has to be licensed stuff (or stuff that will be licensed and released by March of next year), we're trying to avoid stuff that's been shown on Cartoon Network (and other cable stations), and there will be no hentai (unless we decide to reserve a late-night block for that ^^; ), but within those constraints we're open to suggestions.
So, what are your thoughts?

Yes these 2 have been aired over CRTNNTWRK but.... I wuvs Lupin the 3rd...... Great.... show.. I heard there's over 200 episode in teh series... as well as 11 movies... I think... Bah i dunno.. It's da mob though

Lupin III is the bomb. There are 228 TV episodes to be exact. The second season, which they're showing on CN now and is currently being released on DVD by Pioneer, is 155 episodes alone. The first season (which debuted in 1971!) is currently being fansubbed by I Love Anime and is 23 eps long (They're up to ep13 now). There was a third season, from the early/mid-80s which was 50 episodes. No one seems to have tackled it yet. Nor, the 12 minute pilot film from 1969.
They've also been making a new Lupin III TV movie every couple years or so, since the late 70s. There are hella of them. Urban Vision and AnimEigo have released a few. There's also the Castle of Cagliostro movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki, which is excellent. The most recent Lupin III anime are both from 2002; The First Contact TV prequel movie and the Return of Pycal OVA.

I enjoyed the run of Blue Gender on Adult Swim (enough, in fact, for me to buy the box set), but because it IS on Adult Swim it probably won't work out. I did put it on the list, though.
Lupin the 3rd is a great show. Even though it's on TV right now, I could certainly see us running one of the movies.
I'd love it if Tenchi OAV3 were out in time, but I don't think that's gonna happen. ^^;

Much obliged. ;D I did, however, forget one title that's absolutely essential to any gathering of otaku; Otaku no Video! It's absolutely essential viewing for any otaku.

Ak. I just read through this again, and noticed a NOTICABLE amount of lack of Excel Saga. Come On O.o That series is licensed and makes fun at every anime in existance, NOT putting it up is a crime ^^'
Especially episode 4(so many people like these stupid dating games >> well, that IS one of them, as an episode. XD), Episode 10(cute animals are always a win!), and Episode 23-25(end-time fantasy, Fist of the North Star type, just with Excel as the main fighter XD her killer move is NASTY XD)
And since Excel has no plot whatsoever, showing 1st and 2nd ep, the power rangers ep, the two android ep, and then 23-25, won't be a problem since it has no plot and thus nothing can be spoiled.
Save the Pedro. And that doesn't count ^^

Yes, Excel Saga is a good pick indeed. My favorite ep = the lesbian android ep. ;D
If we're talking whacky-licensed anime, we can't forget Dragon Half. The origin of my namesake!

Dragon Half is great too, if you manage to hold the people inside the room. Some are scared by the bad animation(idiots -.-)
I prefer the manga though - more slime princess, she's great - but... =/ Its not translated by anyone anywhere X[

There was some guy on Geocities translating and publishing the manga a couple years ago. He got up to chapter 3 and seemed to have disappeared. I had them saved on my old HD, which died. O_O; I did actually download some 4 chapters or so on Direct Connect awhile back. But they were translated into some Scandanavian language or something.

That was the guy who ascanned them and for some wierd reason colored and mirrored them as well? Dooky posted that to some ML years ago - that guy, too, has disappeared(after finishing 2 volumes he suddenly deleted all of it, no clue why ^^') That was a big shame.

Oh yeah, that's right! He was coloring and "flopping" them as well. Kinda weird, but I guess that was the early days of scanlations. I'm still hoping to Japanese Tankoban volumes of Dragon Half. But it's been several years, so I don't know if they're even still in print.
