Title: Some EH Fanart
Post by: theravenisdead on September 07, 2003, 02:35:49 pm
 Found these many months ago on a Japanese artist's website. Unfortunately I do not remember the website or the name of the artist ^^; But I do know that all six were done by a single individual (I believe it was a female, but Im not sure)

http://www.geocities.com/shaylasr4v3n/fanart.html

You can go see them at the above link. As you'll se, they are very well done. The artist is very talented, whoever it was!  ^^; :)

Woah! O_o those are really good! I'd say it was me who drew them, but if you've seen some of my previous art, then you can tell it wasn't. :P I've never even seen them before in my life.  ^^;

But they are brilliant!  ;D

Hmm, 403.  Babelfish reads it as (bolded indicates what I think is on of the most likely causes):

Like below you can think the reason.
*  The permission of the file and the directory is inadequate.
*  The index.html does not exist in the user directory which it tries to refer to.

In case of the usual home page, like below you can think the reason.
*  The manager of this page has closed the page.
*  It has become indication stop depending upon code violation and passing load and withdrawal from membership.    (I think that's a TOS violation or possibly to much bandwidth used.)

Oh, I'm good.  8)
Man, I really have too much time on my hands  ^^;

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://shake-la-la.cool.ne.jp/

God bless the Internet Wayback Machine Archiver  :o

A good portion of the site (including the images) are missing from the archive, sadly. Though there are many EH pics available. if you look through the file lists, you will find many pics not linked on the main page.

Click below to get a filelist for shake-la-la.cool.ne.jp. It'll show all files in the archive that originated from that address.
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://shake-la-la.cool.ne.jp/*

Sure, many pics are lost. But hey, least we're better off than before eh?

Before I forget, here's 3 more of Shake's drawings. These were located at another El Hazard Fanartist's page, I found em browsing during my search for a new Shake-La-La site (just in case he/she reopenned the site somewhere else)

http://www2.justnet.ne.jp/~yutaka.fuji/elha_kihin.htm

Now for the images  8)
There's one of TV Ifurita and Jinnai:

One of Makoto and Jinnai:
http://www2.justnet.ne.jp/~yutaka.fuji/image/el-ha24-3.jpg

And a s\/\/337 rendition of Fatora in a red dress:

Shake is officially l337  ^^; ;D

DUDE, there's more EH fanart to be found.  Not Shake, but still...

http://www.seaple-n.icc.ne.jp/~daic/

Perhaps not lost nor as great, but it's got a couple Ishiel pics.  Maybe Tim will be happy.  I think I'll start collecting ALL fanart from any source... let me just say that most domestic artists disapoint me in quality and volume 90% of the time.   ^^;

In the meantime, naked cherub Quawool will sit in my post.

I burned a couple hours on random Google searches, and found a few more EH fanarts.  My EH links lists are in my signature, for now.  I don't mean to try to take over the topic-- I'm mostly building these lists for my own reference, so that I won't lose any links again.

I don't remember anyone having found this site (http://www.superstories.net/chainsman/) yet.  It's, uh, an insane asylum for female cartoon characters  ^^;  I think (actually, I hope!!) it has the most bizarre Shayla fanart (http://www.superstories.net/chainsman/arrival.htm) and Nanami fanart (http://www.superstories.net/chainsman/nanami.htm) we've found so far  ^^;

I'll tell you what's making Makoto sweatdrop; those nipples are disgustingly large.  They look like the ends of plungers.   -_-

And the WinAmp skin is as I expected; another boring bitmap applied to the entire area of the window type.  Man, my sister has such cool Megaman ones and stuff where each control is detailed specially and everything.  Ah well.

Awesome finds, though, MrWhat!

Do random people like making plastic figurines?

Cold cast resin figure assembly and collection is actually a huge sub-genre of anime otakism in Japan, and also has a small following in the rest of the world. Some of the kits can be quite expensive. There are tons of magazines dedicated to the hobby. Some people even go to the trouble to create their own models from scratch. There are also "garage kits" where they take an existing figure and make a mold of it then mass-produce reproduce and sell them. ^^;

There are also pre-assembled/painted figures sold as well. One of these days I'm going to bite the bullet and pick up this beauty. http://www.animecastle.com/ACEP-94846.html

Heh not a good idea ^_^; Clay in powdered form is VERY bad for the lungs... toxic even... O_O; Which is why they encourage you to BUY pre-packaged clay now instead of mixing your own...

I wonder how many brain cells I'll have left after 30 years of sniffing rubber cement, fixative and clay powder... hmm... retirement could be fun... if I am conscious enough to be aware that I've retired...

Okay.  Rob and Tim just posted Round 2, so I guess this is Round 3.  We've been working separately, and so it looks like we've both found things the other hasn't listed yet.

El-Hazard fan art links list at echalpha.com (http://echoalpha.com/fanart/ElHazard_links.html)

It's like this ^^; I finally had a weekend completely off.  I sat down at this computer at about 6:00 Friday night, and I thought, okay, I'll work on that list of El-Hazard fan art links for "a few hours."  And the next thing I know, It's 3:30 Saturday afternoon  ^^;  So I went to bed for five hours, got back up and worked on it again, until about an hour ago.  What, me obsessive-compulsive?  ^^;

So, anyway, like, go look at my list.  There's about 60 new links in it.  Just look for the [added] tags.

Again, I'm not claiming first English discovery on anything-- I don't know exactly what Rob, Tim, Shayla's Raven or others may have already found.  The new ones are just new to me.

There's way too many new links to rewrite in YaBB code and repost here.  But, here's the three most important finds.

http://creative.ncu.edu.tw/~kouyoumin/main/menu.html
Three nice color comics under "Official Comix" and a series of postcard art under "Making."  The site seems to come and go, so if the link fails at first, keep trying.

Okay.  Rob and Tim just posted Round 2, so I guess this is Round 3.

Agh, it never ends!  XD  This is incredible.  Here I was thinking that no one drew EH art, and yet there's ... insane amounts to be found!  Shiggity shiggity shwah.  Or something to that spelling.

Last Night:

Tim - "Man, it took me 14 hours, but I'm finally finished."

Rob - "Let's post this."

Today:

Mr. What - "I found 60 more sites with more Fan Art!"

Rob - "XD"

Tim - ":o..."

Yeah, I did see some of that when I was searching for fanart, some I may have just passed up by accident (or purpose, depending on who you ask)...

I've found two El-Hazard bitmaps on my computer, but I don't remember where I got them nor who created them.  The first is a color illustration of Shayla, Afura, Miz, Kauru, Ishiel, Crayna, and Arjah (in that metal sphere) done on a white background and with a kanji stamp on the bottom right corner (at least I _think_ it's a kanji stamp).  The second is a color illustration of Jinnai, looking evilly smug and with his hands steepled together in front of him, with a smiling TV Ifurita behind him and resting her head on top of his.  It's kind of a father/daughter moment, I think.

Anyway, I don't know what your policy is on uncredited work, but if you want them I'll send them to you.

I've seen both, if I'm getting your description right.

The first, which I've had for quite some time and I suspect is massively distributed well beyond original credit:

http://www.el-hazardonline.net/El-Hazard/images/UnsortedUnknown/allpriestesses.jpeg

The other, which is of really bad quality:

http://www.el-hazardonline.net/El-Hazard/images/list/comic09.jpg

If the immediate above is the image you were referring to, it's #4 in the "comicification" of the TV series.  There were a series of books that took the OAV, Wanderers, and even Alternative World animation cels, hit them with a computer filter to make them look like manga, and republished them as manga books.  I actually had opportunity to buy quite a few off of JPQueen.  I have no idea if there's anything special about them other than the covers.

EDIT: I take that back -- it's available as another one of the images in the "Great Pool of El-Hazard Clip Art" that is so nicely documented by the artbooks:

http://www.el-hazardonline.net/cgi-bin/register/eholmemberfile.cgi?getfile=1997/magnificentartbookpage15.jpg;type=jpeg

Now there's nothing special about the covers. ;)

I'd suspect that if I bought these I'd spend a rediculous amount of money and just get animation cels printed monochrome on paper.  It'd at least be worth it if I knew there were going to be "goodies" inside or something.

I hadn't even noticed it until you pointed it out.  :P

Well, it doesn't technically make "fanart"... it's sort of a middle ground fan creation.  That is, unless you drew part of it anyway.  Interestingly, I have no storage currently for wallpaper, WinAmp skins, or silly customization things like that... mostly because I never bothered to look specifically for them.  That IS a nice wallpaper though for Kalia, though, dragonprincess.

I don't know if this has been shown yet, but go ahead and take a look. Click on the little squares in the Illustration section until you get to "Portrait of a Demon God."

That is a great picture, but what surprised me the most was that it was made with a vector program. Those who have ever made anything in vector will know, getting an illustration of that detail is no easy task.

Just updated it again.  This is why I only let myself work on this thing (http://echoalpha.com/fanart/ElHazard_links.html) on holiday weekends.  Searching for fan art is addictive.

Anyway, among the latest finds are a cute picture of Shayla the gunslinger (http://www.animerica-mag.com/anime_nation/images/westerns/large/05.jpg), and an entire gallery of Kalia fan art (http://www.bladeandepsilon.com/kalstuff.htm).

And this is off-topic, but as a drooling fan boy, I would be remiss if I failed to mention Ryoko in Leia's metal bikini (http://www.animerica-mag.com/anime_nation/images/starwars/lacSuel.gif).

Updated The Fan Art List (http://echoalpha.com/fanart/ElHazard_links.html) again.  The complete updates are listed at the top of the page.  Mostly fanarts from various Japanese sites.

I finally found this nice Shayla fanart (http://web.archive.org/web/20030607215127/www.mezurashii.com/artwork/shayla_shayla.jpg) on the Internet Archive.  Coulda sworn it wasn't there, before.  I think IA files come and go.

Here's the original artist behind the "For Magnificent World (http://www.netlaputa.ne.jp/~tfc/honn/f1995/index9e.htm)" and "For Fascination World (http://www.netlaputa.ne.jp/~tfc/honn/h1996/index11-3.htm)" doujinshi.  (Is that girl in gray, with the two Ifuritas, Ifurina?)  There's also got a sample of calendar art (http://www.netlaputa.ne.jp/~tfc/karenda/t1996/index10a.htm) I don't remember seeing before.

And here's another new-to-me doujinshi cover 1 (http://www.shiokomb.cha.to/1997/HANAVSA3_1.htm) and cover 2 (http://www.shiokomb.cha.to/1997/HANAVSA3_4.htm).

We've also got a nice profile of Kauru (http://www.geocities.jp/kyo_alc/diary/img/20030427.jpg), OVA-Ifurita having a wardrobe malfunction (http://www7.plala.or.jp/kazenotami/n_ilast/if01.jpg) (NSFW), a Nahato shrine (http://www.geocities.com/tokyo/field/4007/nahato/nahato.html), another beautiful OVA-Ifurita fanart (http://mypage.naver.co.jp/amami/another/ama_binsen_elha.htm), Fatora selling furniture polish (http://mypage.naver.co.jp/amami/dustbox/gomi_cut_fatora.htm)!?, and the latest wonderful casual OVA-Ifurita (http://www.kinet.or.jp/ktw/tsuta/image/ktw_0406.jpg) by Tsutaya Katsuodou.

And in the Department of Not-El-Hazard Gratuitous Fan Service, I've found two of the best hit-count fanarts ever, courtesy of Kiyone (http://www7.plala.or.jp/kazenotami/n_ilast/kiyo01.jpg) and Hyatt (http://www7.plala.or.jp/kazenotami/n_ilast/hyatt01.jpg).  When I found the Hyatt fanart, I laughed so hard that I almost coughed up blood myself.

I thought something along those lines too... but mine was more like, "That is one ugly picture of Ifurita" ^^; I think basically the WHOLE FACE is the problem.

For anime, her eyes are too small for your typical female character -- especially one in a coy position. In this case it just comes off creepy like a guy in a trench coat who's about to flash you -- the mouth adds to this disturbing effect.

The nose is a little long, as is the jawline. Her chin is too long too and square. It's like she has Fujisawa's chin, all she's missing is the stubble.

Her cheeks are kind of high, cos her eyes are so small, so her face looks more hollow, like she's underfed.

so here is what we have:

(http://bobstuffs.no-ip.com/sarahsensei/images/ifuritabad.jpg)

and here is what I did in about 10 minutes to TRY and fix it:

(http://bobstuffs.no-ip.com/sarahsensei/images/ifuritafix.jpg)

It's not a GREAT fix, but I think it's better than it was :\ She at least looks female now instead of a cosplayer in drag.

Does that help?

Her head is kinda weird shaped to begin with, so you'd pretty much have to redraw the whole thing to fix that :p The back of the head needs to be reshaped. Her head is also a little big for her body even at that angle (unless we're seeing her through a fish-eye lens) :p

Can you tell that just about everything in this picture bothers me?

I think your fixes are quite an improvement Sarah! I shouldn't be so critical, since I can't draw myself, but the orignal does really look bad. I'm not a huge fanart person, but bad Ifurita fanart really bugs me. One major problem is her hair, or the lack thereof. Ifurita has hair down to her waist. Her hair is too short in that pic. And she has a neck like a heavyweight boxer. But gawd, it does look like a man! You're right about the chin and jawline. And her shoulders should slope a little more, like a womans. Not be straight like a mans. Well, I suppose it's fitting because according to J-List, "Supposedly in Tokyo there's a trend towards men who are interested in wearing make-up, just like girls. Called "Morios," these men put heart stickers on their faces and dress in outrageous fashions like the kogals of a few years ago -- you cold almost call them "koguys."" And the Japanese always were kinda fascinated with transvestites, so...... O_O;

Yep, I do think that the Shake La La site had the best FanArt on El-Hazard ever made (they almost look like Hanken cels  :o ).

BTW, I recently discovered that the artist's name is Oya Megumi (and I also made a mirror site to show how it looked like back in 2001-2003 (http://icy.dearchild.googlepages.com/Shake.htm)).
